Europe being split into four parts, you need to randomly chose whether
the North-West should be in the North or the West and whether the
South-West should be South or West. The only easy decision at the time
of defining those regions was 'Eastern Europe is everything behind the
Iron Curtain'.

France, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and a few others are
classified as 'Western Europe' despite being a lot further east than
Ireland and Portugal which are not classified as 'Western Europe'.

There seems to be some rule that geography has to be by political borders.
Northern france is in northern europe regardless of whether the south is.

Most of Antarctica is a long way from the South Pole. I've been to
Antarctica, but haven't crossed the Antarctic Circle.

I had a colleague once, a Mr Church. And if that wasn't bad enough, his
parent's really had christened him "Norman".

Parents like that really need a good slap. Whats cute and funny in the
maternity ward is very far from amusing when the kid is a teenager at school
getting bullied.
