Any Sheddi into Drone flying?

I ask because I am seriously considering getting into it. I've always
loved flying, but in my state of health now, the real thing is out of
the question.

However, I do love aerial shots. And the thought of flying/filming from
above canals, ancient sites, spectacular scenery, that I can drive to
but not explore on the ground any more does appeal to me.

But I have no idea what equipment would best suit me.

There are also licensing issues.

I'm probably going to have to join a local drone club to find out what's
involved.

A serious drone will, last time I checked. cost you around 15000

They are incredible dangerous wntil the user gets used to them.

There was a rumor about a couple of years ago that travellers (gypsies)
were using them to scout out targets.

People were buying cheap ones, bringing them into te mountains and
flyingthem in sheltered valleys, if they fly the drones above the
shelter from wind, the drone dissapears in a moment, and there are
stories of almost piles of wrecked drones in forests to the NE.

A woman asked me a while ago if she should get her daughter on for Xmas,
as the daughter wanter. My advice was definately `NO'

There are even idiots flying them around airfields.

I know of one place where drones, model airplanes are allowed. There are
no houses within 500 yards of it. Such places are rare in Ireland and
more so on the big island to the East.

One man’s pleasure is another man’s feckin’ annoyance. Nothing worse than
trying to enjoy a beauty spot than to hear a swam of wasps flying overhead.
In some countries they’ve had to bring in special “no drone zones” to
counter the annoyance of these devices.

That said, I’m sure they’re fun and used responsibly I dare say there’s no
harm.

You'll get minimal hassle by using one of the sub-250g class of drones

<https://www.dji.com/uk/products/camera-drones#mini-series>

Other molishers exist, there are plenty of people who upgrade to the
latest model every year, I don't know whether they flog the old models
on fleabay, or keep them as spares.

The regulations seem to be in continual flux thobut, I suspect this is
mostly because of the "auditors" who deliberately set out to annoy
people by flying in places where the drone laws don't ban it but it's a
"civil trespass" issue and dibbles won't get involved.

Mr Geeksvana on u-bend seems fairly sensible.

What's that got to do with what Tone wants to do with one?

I've often felt that lifeboat crews could usefully use them. They are
always saying that it is hard to spot somebody in the water from sea
level, but from the air? Helicopter rescue crews have a search
advantage. Why not drones?

short battery life, not liking wind much, only one place to land in case
of prombles?

Just stick a camera on a long pole above the lifeboat?

In calm conditions, maybe. But more often than not, marine SAR is conducted
in weather conditions that are not suitable for drones. HMCG can call on RAF
helicopters when necessary - they often train together.

During a recent around the whirled race, the boats had drones on board
to film themselves. Once the boats were doing a bit more than 20kts the
drones had problems keeping up with them.
