Double checked - you have the same rules as the EU. Sub 250g needs
no registration or training unless it has a camera.

From https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/

------------------------------
You do not need to register if you’ll only use a drone or model aircraft
that weighs below 250g and is a toy or does not have a camera.
------------------------------

Once there's a camera on the drone it doesn't matter how small it
is you have to be a registered drone operator unless it's classed as a toy
for under 14s.

It seems easy to get registered and then you can fly anything up to
4kg - or 25kg with more training.

also they are not good at keeping their wibble updated,
e.g. that page says

"anyone who will fly must pass a theory test to get a flyer ID"

They have a tendency to say "you must do X" or "you must not do Y" but
then have later exceptions that say <250g is different, e.g.

below 250g - not a toy - with camera
passing the theory test and getting a flyer ID are *NOT* required, but
as you say, it does need an operator ID

yes, operator ID requires only zbarl.

Disgoove 4kg has any significance in the UK, next limit up from 250g is 25kg

Yup, at least twice a week I get letter addressed to 'The Legal Owner'.
Today the letter says 'we are valuing properties in your area'. Just
like 'we are doing work in/on your neighbours house. Can we replace your
roof/windows/driveway for an incredibly low price' Low price until they
start the work and find "problems".

I take it that when they have valued my property, the local builders
will be round like flies on a dead horse.

Failing that, there's always "give us your contact details" and expect a
large quantity of (vaguely) related spam when they sell them on.

Last time I checked, usenet does not and can not leave any cookies.
Google Groups on the other hand searches all your posts and sells the
data to their advertisers.

I use Thunderbird under Windows 10,and haven't had that problem in 30
years that I suspect usenet of causing. The difficulty of monetising it
is one reason the ISPs all dropped their news servers and promote
Farcepuke and other antisocial media platforms. It was costing them
money to run the servers for no return.

I got one to play with for £30. SWMBO has put it somewhere though.

Cheapo ones are available on That Ebay - you'd probably want one with
FPV (first person visual) so you get a drone's eye view of where you're
going. Many reviews are available. A good hobby drone is more like
500-1000 than 15000.

Apparently thieves targeting farm equipment and parts thereof are using
drones to work out their targets and exact locations.

Recently I have been reading a book on deception in North Africa during
the last World Unpleasantness.

Looks like farmers need to be able to disguise expensive kit, say
harvesters as leaky old sheds, sheep as dragons, Sheergar as an old nag
ready for the knackers yard and so on, their farmhouses as
fortifications left over from the last World Unpleasantness and so on.

Which reminds me of the 1991 unpleasantnesses over Q8. Final phase, the
Designated Villain was flinging fphq zvffvyrf all over the place and the
experts were publicly scratching their heads about how many they'd
destroyed and where was he getting them all from ... and the Beeb ran an
interview with an Italian bloke, ran a little business making models for
playgrounds, dinosaurs and stuff, metal frames & fibreglass panels. He
said, he'd been wondering why Iraq wanted so many model missiles.
