So when are you going for your test to get an operating licence?
From what I understand, over a certain size they now need to be registered
and the pilot tested that they are not idiots.
You are not allowed to fly over private land without written permission and
there is an exclusion distance around any airfield too.

Now whether any of this is enforced unless some harm is done is a whole
other subject. I think that Aero Modellers are a bit miffed as some of their
larger models are going to be affected. Already they moan they need public
liability insurance, and are restricted to club fly sites, so no more
pitching up in some open land and buzzing the dog walkers I suppose.

I already have an operators licence, though I have never operated one.
As the drone is under 250g, the exam is a written online one. I passed
36/40.

The "licence" is a multiple choice, you can take it any number of times
until you pass, which I gather is a piece of piss after reading the
handy rules leaflet anyway

One thing I am expecting arTone to want to do with it is already streng
verboten. Aerial shots of music festivals always go down well with the
viewers. For these reasons, they normally use a crane or balloon.

Technicality that lets me off the hook. I have a small one (Oooerr,
Mrs.!) with a camera, but it was sold as a toy, and weighs about 60
Grammes including the battery, so that's okay, then.

It's only fit for indoor use, anyway, and one of these days, I'll
actually get it in the air without it scooting under the furniture.
Getting a selfie taken by it would be a bonus.

I have a brush on a long telescopic handle for sweeping the gutters
(it's not a tall house).
I still have to get out a ladder to clear out the crepe that I've
brushed into a pile at one end.

I can well remember in my you being on Epsom Downs and this bloke with his
model powered glider with folding propeller used to come along and go so
high you needed binoculars to see it, then cut the engine and soar on
thermals for over an hour. I guess to some it might seem boring, but each to
their own. The last time I was there there was a notice board about who
could fly there and when. Those were the good old days, when free flight
biplanes were built which had a completely random flight path once launched.
People needed to have their wits about them if picnicking since one might
hit them in the head while gliding back to earth.

Does anyone recall the people who used to design models that flew which
looked like Lawn mowers. Then there was that kite you could buy that looked
like a deck chair. If that fell on you you would know about it. The snag for
those on the ground with modern models and drones is that they are often
quiet, and hence dangerous.
