I have seen a drone filming a folk stage once - it was about 10
years ago though, so maybe the rules/laws were still being formed
here in the colony .. ? It generally stayed in the area immediately
in front of the stage and high enough to not be in-the-way ;
but a mishap would certainly have endangered the front row folks.

But of course it would get stuck up there, and you would have to get out

I got a robot lawnmower when all left here. It used to get stuck in
corners and would claw at the ground making sad noises, and people would
come in at night and say, "There is a small animal trapped in your
garden." Someone stole it.

Not a lawn mower or deck chair but an interesting kite in the form of a
sailing boat being modelled by Fenny at a shed moot[1] in Daventry.

It arrived today. Instructions very sparse and mostly unreadable in tiny
print. Luckily there are a couple of YouTube videos that are useful.

But, I can't charge it up because the charge cable that came with it has
the same connectors both ends, and they don't fit anything I've got.

I have an adaptor that fits the battery sockets, but that requires a
male USB A t'other end, which means I need a Male USB A to Male USB A
cable. I have ordered same. Hope that jbexs.

But it raises a problem with connectors. There are so many now, all
different, and I have no idea what any of them are called, apart from
USB A. Amazon offer a lot of adaptors and list what they connect to, but
I can't tell from the images what I need.

I'm looking at four charging cables. One for the mobile phone, one for
the camera, one for a Seagate remote disk, and one for a remote CD
player/burner. They all have a USB A at one end. T'other ends are not
interchangebubble. Daft I call it.

I blame Apple. Whilst everyone else was happy with USB A on one end and
getting used to USB C on the other end they started making leads with USB C
at both ends and chargers with a USB C socket.

I have a USB cable with a connector on the non-USBend which plugs into a
selection of ickle USB plugs.

IIRC one £ZU unit at Wilkinsons (Wilco) or maybe ZUland.

Unlikely, A-to-A should never be required (though they are sold because
people think they need them).

I think you need a USB-C charger you can get them with multiple outputs e.g.

<https://amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-65W/dp/B088CZ8CYG>

The GaN type are smaller for a given wattage.

also you will need a several of USB-C to USB-C cables, did teh drone
come with any?

If you don't want to buy a new charger, you could do it with USB-A to
USB-C cables and charger(s) you already have.

You need USB-C at both ends for power delivery which is why Apple
use it that way.

Some of those must be quite old - it's been a while since anything
was made that wasn't either micro-USB or USB-C.

You're best bet is probably a USB-A to USB-C cable or adaptor.

Yes. Been watching one of the videos. very informative, if very
Leftpondian. They are USB C sockets on the battery chargers and controller.

Have ordered a couple of male USB A to male C adaptor cables.

It came with a male USB C to male USB C cable. Boodly useless. Unless I
flash up me MAC lappy, the location of which I haven't sussed yet.
(Might be in t'caravan.)

But, watching the video and understanding about 10% of it, this is a
highly sophisticated bit of kit. I'm impressed. In slow and normal
speeds it won't fly into any obstruction. It will either hover, or fly
around, according to the setting. And it will safely fly home avoiding
obstacles at the touch of a button.

In 'Sport' mode it'll go where it's pointed, fast! I guess this is for
drone racing. I think I'll leave that to the testosterone brigade.

You can preset the max flying height (400ft) and it will follow the
contour of the land. (What it'll do around our cliffs is going to be
interesting to watch).

Clever stuff.

Just found out that you can get a pair of goggles that give you the
impression you are actually in the thing, flying it. Blimee!

Should keep me amused for a bit.

Will report back after first test flight. Seeking WW1 flying helmet and
goggles. Curse the Red Baron! Bounder!

I also likes 'em, got my first USB-C device an eight of years ago, now
have very little that doesn't use it, it's teh future.

A single USB-4 cable to flatpot supplies 100W of power, 4K and 2K
monitors, mutleygig ethernot, more USB sockets than you can shake a
stick at ... total 40Gbps throughput.

Beware, it can't "see" obstructions in all directions (e.g. the sides)

I don't think all devices have USB C sockets ?

Beware!

Not all USB-C cables are multifunctional. The multi-functionality
(if present) resides in the sockets but the functional capability is
determined by the cable, of which there are very many types.

Be sure to get ~the right cable!~

Many USB-C cables and devices have extra connections and cores for
handshaking and other purposes, which are not present on USB-A
connectors or cables for USB 1 or 2.x, though they are there on the USB
3 connectors ( A blue tongue inside is the telltale). USB-C is just one
of the standard USB 3.x connectors.

If you use one of the cheaper USB 2.x adaptors, the voltages and
currents available at the USB-C end are limited to the USB 2 connections
only (Fairly slow data and not much power). For full capabilities, you
need USB 3, which has the A type plug with a blue connector tongue, and
all the extra pins that go with it.

USB C is terrific - no more squinting to see the icon for
orientating the cord ! The household --> USB C adapter
isn't a big expense and laptops have USB C now-a-days.
