I am continuing to argue in this thread on the basis of principle. It
is the vendor's responsibility to chase up Aus Post, which they did in
my case.

I would suggest you read up on the legal concepts of bailment and

I am a long term customer of the vendor so the vendor would have known I
could have posted about the incident on social media.

It was a Sydney to Sydney delivery and it hadn't moved for 16 days. At
some point the item has to be declared 'lost'.

Aus Post told me that it was now up to the vendor to follow the correct
process on the basis it was lost.

It seems that this happened and the item was finally delivered. So I
end up with a successful result due to a correct application of the law.

If I had followed your and Phil's incorrect advice I would still be
waiting for the item and may have forfeited the purchase costs.

At some point the item has to be declared 'lost', at which point it
could later be found, but as far as the sale is concerned the buyer must
be refunded, and the item is then returned to sender if it is later found.

You cannot just wait months for an item to be found. There must be a
point at which the buyer is refunded.
