Around 2010. Some of the French plod have unmarked cars fitted with
cameras in the rear door/bumper, so it's just like the old-fashioned
speed gun, another plod at the other end of the village or wherever
will flag you down and then make you pay an on-the-spot fine.

TBH I don't mnd taking the odd French hit, given that their fines are
low (relative to Swiss ones the whole world is cheap) and there are no
points on the Swiss licence. The worst thing is that they deliberately
take an age to fill in the paperwork, knowing that you don't really
give a shit about the rest of it.

On the Guzzi, September 2007 (97 in a 60) - I ended up with a ban for
six weeks.

Coming back from the Manx GP in 2019 I was pulled over by police for a
"motorcycle road safety check". Guzzi again.

Depends on the area. Norfolk has a lot of forward facing (that I
noticed). Sussex has few cameras but they're all (as far as I'm aware)
rear facing.

Most motorway roadworks average camera sets seem to be rear facing now.

He was very proud to show me his new "laser rifle" toy that was able to
catch me on the A449 (just after where it splits from the A40 at Raglan).
By the time I passed him, he was already back in his unmarked car seemingly
parked in a layby. Next thing I knew I had said car in my rear view mirror
with blue lights flashing in the grille. He'd clocked me coming around the
left hand bend after the junction onto a long straight at 96mph.

Nowadays, there is often a camera van in the same layby.

Russia have that, usually an old Moscavich parked on a hill/bend.
Locals were always happy to pre-warn us. Not that we bothered speeding,
but people just assume bikes are.

I had one of those a couple of weeks back. I saw the busybodies standing about
20m before a 40 zone started and I was caught at 36 or so, accelerating from a roundabout
towards the 40. Utterly pointless waste of my council tax (the letter and their 'training').

Still, I suppose it stops the busybodies being involved in bestiality or child abduction or writing
comments on the Express and Mail websites about foreigners. Realistically it probably reduces
the time they dedicate to those other interests.

As with Simon, I got an 'official' threatening letter from the police. It told me
how fast I was going when and where and said that I could be prosecuted in
the future if caught again- but I don't believe 'busybody' cameras count for
prosecutions so it's only if the police catch me (or a camera) that it matters.

I'd seen the busybodies wearing yellow waistcoats by the side of the road and
since they weren't police I frankly couldn't be bothered to throttle off and
slow down.
