And the fact that Minnesota does not consist of endless desert might

Unfortunately not, my PB is 1.49.03

I know where I lost it (about a minute) - I normally run that distance
with a camelback but didn't yeterday. I took water at the water
stations but I can't run and drink so have to stop.

Costs me about 15 seconds a time.

Ah. Didn't realise that you were now such a serious runner. I recall
my first effort being very slightly better than your first, but didn't
realise you'd done much more. Of course, I set myself a target of
"under 2 hours" for my first, met it (by about a minute) and then
didn't bother ever doing another :-)

Yeah, once is enough, I reckon. I did a 20km about 35 years ago, quite
a hilly one, in Brussels (was working there at the time). Came home in
arounnd 1:48, IIRC, and was a little disappointed that I still had
some energy left. Didn't have any particular target in mind, and it
seemed quite respectable, so I retired while at the top of my game.

A couple of years ago a guy on my team flew back to Seattle from Brazil (which was three flights - 8 hours to Florida, 4 to Texas and then 4 to Seattle), landed at 11.30pm local, drove home, went to bed. Got up at 6am and went to the start-line for a half. Ouch.
