**My discount servo sells 98RON for $1.74/L. The local Shell is around
$2.03/L. Dunno about the other fuels. I don't buy them. Petrol prices
are not going to fall anytime soon. They will, almost certainly rise in
the near future.

That difference wouldn't happen where I live, if it did happen the servo
with the high price wouldn't sell any fuel.
I noticed yesterday as I was driving past the servo closest to home that
the price of 91 had gone up from 139cpl to 145cpl, not impossible that
it will go up further but 200cpl?, maybe in other parts of Melbourne but
not likely around here.

Just as well. I've been using the Effie a bit lately as it's permit runs
out in a few weeks and I still have 40 odd days of driving left on it,
and the thing gets 25 litres per 100km's down hill with a decent wind up
it's clacker :)

Had 3 new ones in the 70s, then married in 1980 which put a halt on new
car buying for 15 years or so until we got ahead a bit. About 6 over the
past 25 years.

hmmm. that made me think. I've had nine 9 new cars to date since and
including the 17.5.1976. so on average one every 5 years. however the
actual time each vehicle was kept varied from minimum 1 year to max 13
years.

I've had one new car with the deal backdated (it's who you know :) and
with 10% Holden discount it was good value. Most others were bought
through the trade with many flipped for easy money. Others I've either
kept because I like them or bought for a specific purpose, like the then
4 year old Hilux for when we were renovating our house in Perth. Still
have it, it's just too handy to part with now as it's currently used to
cart tonnes of Jarrah firewood around plus literally *nothing* has gone
wrong with it in 335,000km, not a tear in the seat, not on it's third
timing chain, no collapsed suspension and not spot of bent or rusted
chassis a la Navara, so it stays :-)
