Apparently its the older pilots close to retirement that are quitting.
That is a problem for airlines in 2 ways, one is that there is no one to
replace them and secondly its the older experienced pilots who train and
certify new pilots so if they retire then it creates a backlog in
trainee system.

If they can make them fly safely without crashing then most would
consider that "fixed".
Only time will tell if the Max turns out to be a safe aircraft and I
would think twice before flying on one.

** Turn MCAS off for any reason, or have it fail and the basic flaw is back with a vengeance.
When that is involved in another crash, the plane will be grounded forever.

The 737MAX is truly " ... not safe at any altitude ".

For those who may not know, the basic flaw in the MAX is the size and position of the engines in front of the wings.
Makes the plane highly prone to stalling at high attack angles during any phase of flight.

Sure but its far from clear that that will make things A LOT
worse given the problem the virus has already produced.

Wrong, as always. The basic flaw was hardly ever a problem and
the MCAS redone properly and with the pilot being able to disable
it if it fucks up means that it wont cause any more crashes. Its not
as if it isn't obvious if it does fuck up and trivial to indicate to the
pilot that it is taking control of the aircraft pitch and so the pilot
can disable it if its clear that it shouldn’t be doing that.

Not when the MCAS stops that, fuckwit.

Despite the design flaw the MAX can still be flown manually.
If there is a problem with MCAS after the fix the pilots will know how
to deal with it whereas before they had little or no training on MCAS,
the aircraft might be more difficult to handle but it can still fly
safely manually.

Gough Whitlam when Joe Riordan lost the seat of Philip in Sydney’s

I had an uncle that lived in Wellington. He voted Liberal all his

The basic problem is the fucked up aerodynamics, MCAS was a workaround,
now there are workarounds to that workaround.

Had Boeing not been so eager to match the Neo, they wouldn't have gone
cheap and built in a single point of failure, and would have included
MCAS in the documentation.

I've worked on a lot of high reliability systems and the mantra has
always been no single points of failure *EVER*. That goes doubly or more
with systems where people die when there are failures.

** FFS !!!!!

with MCAS out, the POS MAX has a strong tendency to pitch up and stall at the worst possible moment.

During climb out or any sudden climb due to wind or storm or crash avoidance.
Or plain disoriented pilot error.
Or a dozen other things.

MCAS will die in the arse if there is a major electrical failure.

Get real you pathetic wanker.

** Just as I posted already.

The must be some honest folk at the FAA who think the MAX needs to be grounded forever.
But aviation politics got in their way - as always.

Like with the cargo door on the DC10.
After the first crash it was obvious it needed to be re-engineered but that did not happen before hundreds died.
Look it up.

Yep.

Nope, it fixed the problem when done properly.

More of your mindless bullshit. Its now been done properly
with more than one sensor and the pilots have been told
about it so they can disable it if it fails, as all systems can.

More of your mindless bullshit. The single sensor had nothing
to do with matching the neo, it was just another design fuckup.

And the training.

And Boeing has done it like that forever now.

And just fucked up with MCAS. And haven't now, otherwise
the FAA wouldn’t have allowed it to fly again.

So its stupid to claim that its just a workaround on a workaround.

** Fact is, they would never have created the MAX at all.
The original 737 air frame had been already pushed to its limit so there was no further to go.

Then along came some fool from the military side of Boeing with a cunning fix that would save the company a massive amount of money - or else maybe put it out of business.

Management, corrupted by the influence of their McDonnel Douglass influence, went for the money.

All correct but I've never seen or heard anything that says that a 737
Max can't be flown manually safely with the MCAS disabled, the main
reasons for the 2 crashes was faulty single senors plus the pilots
weren't trained on MCAS and didn't know what it was let alone how to
disable it in the event of a problem.
Knowing what they know now plus with the additional sensors and revised
software its highly unlikely that the situations that caused those 2
crashes would reoccur.
I agree that Boeing should be held criminally liable for their failures
but that's a different issue to the state of the Max now.
