I *think* I have a colour dot-matrix printer somewhere, but I don't
think the tapes can be got. Can't unforget the make, blind Bambi where
it is, and at present I'd have to find someone trustworthy to go
upstairs and search.

I need to find such a person soon 'cos I want my good microscope down
where I can use it: if I do I'll see if it's there and you can have it
if it's worth the cost of the carriage.

Eh? re-darken the ribbon ink (or ribbon inking pad) with stamp pad ink, surely!

(this is the oldschool equivalent of refilling the ink tank on an inkjet with a
syringe, back before the manufacturers went to great lengths to make that not
work.)

there was this planet where the inhabitants always took drugs the inhabitants were called Furrys and some of them had an apparatus on their head with a hypodermic needle which would inject drugs into their brains directly so that particular subset of the habitation was called the Furrys with a syringe on top.

Brother and Epson are the exceptions:-)

Other need a reset device to reset the chip that totals the volume of ink
sprayed, and shuts the printhead down after x drops, and/or need an ink sump
drained, or some other rigmarole: over- or underpressure in the ink tank, a
membrane that bursts on "unauthorized" fiddling, etc. Bah humbug. Here I have an
ancient Lexmark laser with 10.000 pages to go on the cartridge here, wot prints
gray stripes on both sides of the paper, and a HP LaserJet 6p for "nice"
printouts.

At risk of being accused of advertising, my son has two spare Mitsubishi
dye sublimation printers which will print up to (I think) 9x7" photos in
superb quality. The prints from these are fade and water proof. He
used to run a sports photography franchise and sold off most of his
equipment following a van theft. These two printers are fully
functional *except* for failing to guillotine the printed photos off the
roll at the end of each print. Therefore they require some 'servicing'
- either from a Mitsubishi agent or someone serious about DIY :-)
He has a num,ber of unused print rolls (each of which he assures me
would cost >100 pfunds to replace).
"No reasonable offer refused" as they say :-)

Interest stirred. What *type* (not type) of printer are they?

I am such a DIY thingy, and given the tools and the mobility to access
them revel in mending 'irrepairabl' items.

I expect my tools are still in my shed, and I'm working on the mobility
bit, but my hand guillotine (not for fingers, but for paper...) should
cope accurately with separating the pics.
