Twice as heavy, I believe.

(It appears to be down atm)

Are you a long term shedd intern, bill? I wouldn't know I'm a relative

Celebrity? More like infamy in Mudcat. I usually just browse here, as
90% of the stuff is UK local... but I found your music posts, and I'm
the guy who forgot about the time diff, and asked you about your
Martin Carthy interview months ago because I met him at Mystic years
ago and photographed him with friends of his who I know.
Because I have been in FSGW..(Folklore Society of Greater
Washington) for 40 years, I've met many, many folkies..including Max,
the creator of Mudcat and Dick Greenhaus, who started the database...
and a number of Brits who came over for our annual Getaway
https://www.fsgw.org/getaway. My wife... recently deceased.. was
program chair for several years.
I look in here several times a week.

(Mudcat has been up & down several times recently.. technobobbles, I
gather.)

That Martin Carthy chat was also the last time Norma appeared anywhere
on the media too, if briefly.

I was very taken by the loving care that Martin was showing her at the time.

The X^4 (who is still No 1 close companion. The X^5 didn't jbex out) was
once Norma's neighbour at the time The Watersons were on the rise. She
had no idea Norma was any kind of celebrity.

Speaks volumes.

My dad had at least one, Gerard Hoffnung with his letters from hoteliers
("French widows in every room!") and the Bricklayer's Letter on one side
and his address to the Oxford Union on the other. I have a feeling that
At The Drop of a Hat was also on 10".

I had the first two Rolling Stones LPs. Somebody nicked them years ago.
That was most displeasing. At least I only paid £1-50 for the two.

Ber-loimey? Where did that spring from? My Google search gives me
results for a nice bit of Mahler for at least 2/3 of the first page
and even then it doesn't wander into books.

Talking of novelties. There was of course the coloured or picture disc
pressings to contend with. I always found them less good, audio wise.
There was a green one and a yellow one I had, and both seemed to wear
faster or be noisier than one might expect.
There have also been some odd experiments with CDs as well, CDs that are
square or credit card sized mainly with promotional short pieces of music
on. Many players simply could not cope with them in their loading mechanism.

They were poor but not as bad as the flexible ones that appeared on
magazines occasionally - they were *awful* and wore out very quickly.

I've seen drivers on those odd shaped CDs or mini CDs neither of
which work well in a typical PC drive.

<Grin> I had a halfway decent tape recorder, so only ever needed to play
them once, and if I didn't like it, there was an erase head.

Most drives will accept the 8 cm format (I goove it's in the standard),
and I used to have the business card format ones printed on one side
with a sample track on the other as promotion for the recording side of
life. About a minute of CD format audio. The only drives I found that
would not accept them were the poke it in the slot type (Some of which
wouldn't work with the 8 cm size, either), all the drawer types worked
well, as they centre and grip using the spindle.
