Simon Hargreaves was rather taken by the one he was on the other week.

It certainly looks, erm, distinctive, but in a good way.

I'd read his written review after I'd bought it but had seen Adam
Childs before - does SH mention it on the podcast? (I'm a bit behind at
the moment).

I have to say I'm really impressed, even at running in revs it's quite
exciting.

Also happily sits at normal motorway cruising speeds (80ish) and turns
in 60+ mpg. Which is a good thing and feeds my obsession quite nicely.
Long service intervals too, 9,000 miles.

The suspension is pretty spot on too - easily as good as the Triumph's
WP (no great surprise as the Husqvarna has WP too).

The only real downside is a lot of the options are not yet available -
according to the sales woman Husqvarna have got the bikes out but the
options are following to be fitted later. I've paid for them too.

Some are later this month (the centre stand and, annoyingly, the top
box base) the bluetooth bits, heated seats, grips and the like
beginning of May and the tyre pressure kit in November!

The perils of getting a brand new, brand new bike.

The top box base is annoying as I need it to use it as a commuter (need
it to store my helmet at the station) so it's not racking up the miles
at the moment. I'm away with work anyway for the next couple of weeks
so the BMW gets left at the station and the Husqvarna sits in my garage.

> It certainly looks, erm, distinctive, but in a good way.

Vic thought it looked "lairy", I thought it looked a nice shade of grey.

I haven't read that yet. He turned up at a cafe on the A10 on it, when
we had a chat about old blokes and GoldWings. All Champ's fault.

You can certainly strap a lot of camera kit on the back of it.

Karlskrona in Sweden, so I could ride the southern
coast of Sweden and cross 'the Bridge' to Denmark before
meeting the Bonwicks in Weisenbach in Germany.

Now *that* was a big day. 772miles in 16 hours.
The bit in Sweden and Denmark was slowish. Then there
was an hour's delay for the ferry from Rodby to Puttgarten
so I ended up having 525 miles to do starting at 3pm.

Wouldn't be so bad on a sensible bike... a bit of a pain
on a single cylinder 660cc that wouldn't cruise at much
more than 90 at a push.

No, I asked if Mr Fleming could do it. After he said _I_ was the
problem, not the bike.

Gawd, it is over 10 years since Gibbo and I went to Poland/Baltics.
And yes, the main roads have improved greatly since then.
But the back roads are still more fun :-)

If I had tried hard and fast on the Peg, it would have never made it
between fuel stops (never was a low consumption bike).

But yeah, as others are saying, I don;t see myself doing 500 mile days
any more. TBH, 300-350 knackers me now! :-)

Eh? Try looking back up the thread. 'Twas Ace that said that. I assumed
your "you" to mean a general "you", not a specific person. And I'm on
that certified list BTW, but only for a Saddlesore 1000 and on a Tiger.

My generation? We were first warned about climate change back in the
late 50s by Roger Revelle and his cohorts at SIO (5 miles from my home.)
He was 12 years older than my mother. Every generation since then,
including yours, has done massive damage to the environment. I agree, no
matter what we do, we aren't going to undo the damage. If we haven't
stopped making the problem worse in 60+ years, we are fucked.

But a miracle might happen. So I put solar cells on my roof some years
ago. I recycle. And an electric bike would be fun. Some day.

I BBQ when I can, and have just bought a 2.5L V6 Petrol camper that was never imported into Europe because they couldn't get Type Approval on it. Go me.

Fuxxake, it is! When I read the above, I'd kinda assumed that it'd be
the bit of Germany next to Denmark - but Weisenbach is right down by
Strasbourg!

I dunno how long it took me (Google reckons about 11 hours plus stops), but Bjelovar in Croatia to Haguenau with a crippling hangover is probably the most knackering day's riding I've ever done. It wasn't so much the distance, though 1000km is a fair chunk in one day, more that I needed to make progress so I could get home for work on the Monday. After I split off from Mark and Simon in Slovenia, the only stops I made were for coffee and fuel, and I don't think I ate much more than a few squares of chocolate until I sat down for dinner in Haguenau that night.

The 500 miles from there to home the next day was a doddle in comparison.

I could cruise at 90 on the SMT easily enough (though not much more when fully loaded, without it developing a death-weave) but the higher the speed the more tiring the ride, and the bloke from Belgrade on an unfaired Z750 who tagged on to me between Villach and Munich (or thereabouts) slowed me down til I pulled over in a layby and ditched him as politely as I could.

Five countries in a day though, can't grumble about that. And it was a fucking awesome dinner, even if I was a bit too tired to appreciate it, and had to go back a couple of years later to try it again.

Having done it... I'd not really want to do it again but I'm glad I did it.

Looking at my diary my hands were numb afterwards until the following
morning (when we rode to Chimay).

I remember being at school in the '70s and the climate bête noire of the
day was that we were overdue for a mini ice age that was going to result
in a wall of ice 3 metres high covering the country down to somewhere
around Watford.

I found out much later that this was the usual deliberate
misrepresentation by the press of a climate study that was never
officially published and never peer reviewed.

If only some early social commentator had found some way to
allegorically warn the public at large about the risks of falsely
claiming an event is occurring, leading people to disregard subsequent
warnings when the actual event does happen for real.

The only thing it liked eating was crank position sensors. Had the routine
to swap them down to two hours start to finish. Carried a spare too, after
the second one failed.

Never figured the gas mileage, but loved the large fuel tank for roaming.
