I found Smithing Master Iji. I bought whatever smithing stone [4] and
[3] he had. I upgraded my Bloodhound's Fang as much as I could. Now
I need #5 to upgrade it further. And my Uchigatana.

I like the standard issue Quality Broadsword because it is so fast. I
think it is at +7 now. Add the Electify Armament to it and it kicks
but like nothing else I have.

I have tons of Incantations now. Not sure which ones are the best for
me. I still have the same 5 Spirit Ashes I have had for a long, long
time. And a ton of Ashes of War but not sure which ones are better
than others. I don't see a whole lot of difference in damage with
them or the Incantations.

+6 (or 7?). Original issue. I forgot I wanted to use the
Bloodhound's Fang and/or Uchigatana. And I forgot to activate an
Ashes of War under pressure.

Jellyfish ashes and the NPC Native American helped. I had Godrick
down to a thread of it's life the 2nd attempt but forgot to use a
health flask :-)

I did have the Flamedrake Talisman (?) activated.

15,000 Runes compared to 8 with Margit. But I lost 6 that I went into
and didn't want to get distracted trying to get them back.

That was fun! Now who's next? LOL!!

Go back south through all the soldiers down and to the left is a lion guy.
You can kill him easily from ranged by running past him and fighting from
the building as he won't enter. Getting to him can be difficult due to
the ballistas though.

Past him is a grace, IIRC some golems then a tower, go to the top of the
tower.

Ah, bah humbug. The rune does something with increasing attributes
and only lasts until I die. So not very long whatsoever.

I bought a couple rune arcs from the twin at the Roundtable.

Oh well, it will give me something to do anyway trying to activate it.

You get rune arc for helping defeat bosses in co-op. Or killing people
in PVP.

But yeah I didn't use them often as I died too much. I found them more
useful for general exploration than fighting bosses. It can also be handy
for just trying weapons/spells out that you just need 5 more of some stat.
I did end the game with over 100 as I did a lot of helping (also could
account for why I didn't need to farm runes for levels much)

Okay - here are three examples when I go into my inventory on the
weapons tab, all Physical:

Quality Broadsword + 7 136 + 76
Bloodhounds Fang 222 + 109
Uchigatana 135 +47

What does the plus mean?
I also no have Rogier's Rapier + 8. Not sure if that is a better
weapon than any that I have. But it looks like it has magic assigned
to it.

I found this on reddit about Roger's Rapier.

I do not know what most of this means about casting the Glitblade
Phalanx and getting in the blades:

"f you've beaten Stormveil already, go and talk to Rogier (if you
haven't found him he is in the small cathedral building right after
the elevator grace point with the banished knight with halberd. After
beading Godrick and talking to him at least once he gets his legs
mangled and retires to the Roundtable hold saying he "found what he
was looking for" etc.. and he will be unable to walk again so he gives
you his "Rogier's Rapier+8" (PLUS EIGHT!!) that looks sick and has a
built in "glintblade Phalanx" Ash of War for your L2 attack.

Now that you have this weapon, sneak up to the area near the mages in
Raya Lucaria and get a backstab on the first guy if you can sneak up
without being seen. After that, run to safety and cast the Glintblade
Phalanx while facing AWAY from them, then lock on to one of them and
try to get all ~4-5 blades to home in on just that guy. it will almost
ALWAYS stagger him, so RUN up to him and get a Riposte on him which
pretty much guarantees a kill (At least on my character with 24 Dex
and 9 Int). Then hurry up and spam a few R1 attacks to kill a 2nd
mage, and run behind a wall. Then repeat by casting glintblade phalanx
again and staggering a 3rd enemy, until the whole group is gone. This
works wonders for clearing out the academy crystal caves too. Even if
your Dex and Int isn't very high this should work pretty decent."

Is this a good weapon? I am now in Raya Lucaria but I think I am
going to leave. Too much magic stuff and ranged weapons to deal with
my Confessor.

Glintblade Phylanx is my favorite weapon art from non-unique weapons.
It's damage is magic/int- based, but it's more about the stunning & riposte
though it's extremely fp efficient and great at dealing with normal stunable
mobs.

You don't have to use the rapier it comes on, you can remove it and put it on
any non-unique weapon. Though it comes already at +8. So if you prefer
using your broadsword, that works as well. I like it on the regular rapier as it
has a huge crit bonus which means it does a lot of damage on riposte. It's
probably best on the Misericord dagger as that has the highest crit, or
using on any old weapon, and switching to the dagger for the riposte.

The weapon art summons four magic daggers that over you until you're
within range of something. They fly out as a mid range attack then
disappear. Many mobs will be stunned by this if all 4 hit. It also has
a mid range lunge attack if you heavy attack right after the art of
war.

Yes.

The int ones, specifically death's poker and moonveil were my favorites
(both are hard to get and work best with int)
I also really like the regular rapier usually with glintblade phylanx.

The stormhawk axe weapon art is really good too for certain things.

Hoarfrost stomp is another good one.

On my wis/arc samurai it was the katana with sacred blade mostly.

Early game I found bloody slash on anything great.

Ah, the + is how much damage is coming from the scaling off your
stats. Add the two together and that's how much damage it does.
generally speed is probably better than pure damage though.

You should be able to get it from Sorcerer Rogier who moves to

Thanks! Good to know. But I read about scaling all the time and

Sorry, I have it. Don't know why I wrote "no". I think I like it.
But it is not as good as my broadsword for the seletons with the blue
eyes that suck the heck out of my FP.

I am avoiding Acadamey Raya Lucaria because I am sick of them and all
the magic. I assume that is why most everything is blue there, and
the whole lake region.

I don't think there is much for my Confessor at the Academy any way.

I am going to try the Ainsel River dungeon like you suggested.

Oh - I had Bloody Slashes Ashes of War and I liked it. But I no
longer have it in my inventory! I have no idea what happened to it!

too often anymore on Usenet. It used to be a regular occurrence ('back
in the day,' as I'm wont to say) but not anymore, and it makes me
happy to see that sort of dedication (even if it is mostly just PW and
Justisaur going on, variously interrupted by the occasional intruder

More, it's the rare sort of post that used to be the bread-n-butter of
the c.s.i.p.g.* newsgroup: an exhaustive discussion about a singular
game, detailing its gameplay and strategies to get past the hard bits.
I miss those, even if I know that I'm often to blame for bring more
'meta' discussions into the newsgroup (hey, anyone wanna talk about
Activision or NFTs some more? ;-)

So while this particular discussion thread doesn't interest me enough
to join it (no offense to the participants, it's the game and not you)
its mere existence brings a little joy into my life every time I see
it extended a bit further, and I thought I'd express my happiness in
honor of your 350th post. Keep it up, guys; I love your devotion, even
if I wish it was aimed at a game I'm actually playing ;-)

By the way, I just checked Fort Haight and there is nothing there any
more, whasover, So I did have it once and now it is gone!

Maybe after I boot up ER it will be there again but I did that
yesterday!

I doubt I sold it since it would be listed towards the bottom of the
AoW tab items. I wouldn't remember where that happened any way.

It's big. It's complex. It goes on forever if you want. It is fun.
It is hard. It is addictive. It is all about risks and rewards. And
learning stuff.

But I am the only one of us three here that are still playing ER. rms
and Justisaur have finished it or called it finished. I am still lucky
to get help and interest from them while they still remember the game!

The combat flight-sim newsgroup way back when used to rock, with
PapaDoc and the Pink Flamingo,...

We only have the DCS series now, and perhaps IL-2 still. Jane's stuff
has been long gone! Hornet Korea was my favorite.

I have an hour to kill (well, not really) so I am going to boot up
Elden Ring :-)

It is back in inventory. I had it assigned to another weapon but I do
not understand why I couldn't see it. I guess the AoW tab only shows
available AoWs? Never noticed that!

By the way, I have never used crafting and have never "turned in" a
Golden Rune or others or fragments. I wonder how much $$ I have. Need
to research how to do that.

AoWs only usually only work on some weapons, so if you try to add it
to a weapon that it's not available for it won't show up, like a mace
or a shield.

You won't see them in inventory if they've been placed on a weapon,
but oddly you can see them when you go to place them on another
weapon.

If you put a weapon with one on them in storage they won't show up
anywhere. I had done that with some of mine and kept wondering
where they went until I discovered that.

The golden runes can be used as a consumable, but it's generally
better to sell them at a merchant as it's faster and you can see how
much they're worth. The merchant in Roundtable doesn't take them,
but the smith does (weird.)

To be fair a lot of that is more explaining the less than intuitive controls.
and how things work. I guess that could be considered one of the
'hard bits' though.

It's mostly the same as the previous games, which I've got thousands
of hours in, so I know how most of it works pretty well. I do get confused
sometimes as they changed the names of things and use the old
names like Weapon Art vs. Ash of War (to be fair even the devs have
called it Weapon Art.)

Well I found the Carioun Knight Sword in the back of a wagon at LotL.
I think it comes with that. But I will never use it because it
requires 18 int. No way I am going to upgrade my int 9 times. That
is like 500,000 runes or so!

iLurnia of the Lakes seems to be mostly about magic and sworcery
stuff.

I can't use most of the stuff and I am pretty tired of dealing with
magic and sorcery.

The place is huge and I think I have covered most of it, at least on
the surface.
