As you know, for nearly a week I've been struggling with life and a
broken ice maker. Barely surviving the struggle, a bag of store bought
ice has kept me alive.

Today, I heard from the appliance repair guy and he ordered the parts
but won't have them until middle of next week! So, how to survive?

I went out today to buy a couple of ice making trays. Had to go to
three stores to find them! First stop, Lowes. Nope. The guy
recommended Home Goods two stores down. Nope, just some silly thing
that made 3 fancy shaped cubes. Ace Hardware. YES.

So for now I'm cranking out ice the way they did in 1959, in plastic
trays. Michael will amlost be proud of me. Sorry, they did not have
the metal lever ones.

Just so you know, I appreciate the cards and letters during this tough
time of my life. I had wine with dinner tonight, but tomorrow, I will
have ice to make a gin & tonic.

Ace is the Place. I stopped at the new Lowes since they were 2 miles
closer, but won't bother in the future. Ace had better people there too.

Parts?!?! The $400 refrigerator repair. Coulda been done VIA
Amazon for under $40, I bet. What were the parts?

I would have waited over a week. I've only had to buy a
replacement tray in 10 years and that was $7 from Amazon. And I
hacked the thermistor to always report -2F; it's not even IN the
freezer.

Back a few years I'd have torn into it, repaired it and done. I'd have
to pull the fridge out to shut the water off if it is a valve. I don't

Pbbbt. Pulling out the fridge is child's play. At least mine
slides out pretty easily. I have to do it almost weekly for all
the magnetic darts that fell awry while I was waiting for
something to come up to temp and there were no dishes to clean.

(My dartboard is the side of the fridge that sits next to the
3-foot counter with a 1.5" clearance)
