Persistence paid off. I found an open campsite for the night of the
8th, at a state park very near where we're going to watch the eclipse.
It happens to be in the equestrian campground, but that doesn't mean
that you have to have a horse to camp there, only that you are allowed
to have horses there. We're going to watch the eclipse from a cemetery
where some of my wife's relatives are buried. She is related to a
couple of the Confederate soldiers who were shot after surrendering to
Union troops.

Well, it was stupid to schedule the eclipse on a Monday anyway. Should
have been a weekend so more people can get out to see it. Who the hell
is in charge of this stuff?

Sounds cool... hope no clouds... and I dig the cemetery "angle"...

But you *should* rent a horse for the night, too...

We are in the path of the total eclipse and our regional government has
declared a state of emergency a week advance because they are concerned
that at least a million people will come to Niagara to watch it. That
would not normally bother me because we live in a rural area and there
is lots of open space from which we can get a good view. My only
concern is that I have an opththomology appointment at 3:40 pm which is
about the time of the totality and due to the location of the clinic I
have serious concerns about traffic and parking.

If you are dilated it would add a bit more excitement viewing it.

I was thinking about putting on my eclipse glasses to drive home. With
my 3:40 appointment I should get to see the totality, which only lasts a
few minutes but it may stay dark for a while. It would have been nice to
drive home in the dark. Given that appointments at this clinic tend to
run late the sun will likely be low in the sky an home is to the west.

I know the kayak store is shutting down to let their staff see it. The
owner figured everyone will be out watching the eclipse so they may as
well shut down for an hour or so. For some reason, they are closing
elementary and high schools. I don't understand that. I would have
thought they would have kept kids safer by keeping them inside.
Everyone has been warned not to watch the eclipse without special
filters. I suppose some will ignore the warnings and suffer eye damage.
Those people probably won't make it through life anyway.

Niagara Falls hotel rates have soared. You might have thought they
would be happy to have rooms filled at a time when they are usually empty.

Naughty Hank and Jill. The vitriol drooled by Bryan & Greg is
beginning to to sink tentacles of hatred into your ambiances.

Wishing Bryan blindness is wishing torture. Even if it were the
result of his own stupidity, it's still not a nice thought.

Plus we would have to let him top-post.

If that part of Missouri is where you'll be ... that's only about a
hundred miles from where I live . We'll be watching it from lawn chairs
out in the yard . Or possibly from the swing on our deck .
