We have been seeing that for a long time. It has been SOP for years to

I have heard mixed comments on the rationale. A teacher said they are
concerned about traffic gridlock at bus time. Someone else suggested
shifting liability. If some student ignores the supervised instructions
and suffers eye damage the school board might get sued, but if they
close the schools the parents will be responsible.

Apparently there are already people showing up at hotels in Niagara
Falls. My nephew is a chef at one of the winery restaurants in Niagara
on the Lake and they have huge events going on that day.

That's the thing. We will be in an area of totality. Depending on
traffic, I may be one of those pulling over to look at it. The period
of totality here is about 3:20pm and my ophthalmology appointment is at
3:40. If we get the hordes of sky gazers they are talking about I may
have a hard time getting there.

I raised the question when I went in for the pre consult testing the
other day and they were not at all concerned. It is hard enough to get
an appointment with ophthamologists never mind re-scheduling one over a
potential traffic problem. Schools and stores seem to have a different
idea about the chances of traffic chaos.

I reckon the most dangerous aspect of the eclipse is on the roads. I
have plotted a route that should avoid almost all of the traffic by
adjusting my Google Maps route to go through Grubville and Vulcan.

This morning I looked at the map for the 2045 eclipse. Neat, no travel
beyond my backyard. It will cover most of Florida. I'm very close to
the center of the path a bit below Tampa.
