The following comment assumes the truth of the OP.

The death of any innocent human being is of course a tragedy, and arguably more so when the age is substantially below the reasonable expectation of 80 years in the developed world for those who look after themselves and are lucky enough to dodge cancer. My understanding was that JG was 60-62 years old. Condolences are of course the appropriate sentiment if one is to be expressed, regardless of any disagreements we may of had with him on this messaging board.

My understanding is that John Gabriel had formerly been a teacher in China and that his approach to instruction was found to be beneficial by some of his students. He also clearly had enthusiasm for concrete elementary mathematics, especially with historical influences.

I would say that if a legacy is to be assigned to him by those entrusted with his YouTube channel, it should be those two things, and not to continue to promote the mistaken beliefs he had about the value and incorrectness of mainstream mathematics, his mistaken beliefs in the value of the 'New Calculus', nor the mistaken beliefs he had about the comparative intellectual or academic abilities of himself and others, as none of those three threads seems to have merit.

I repeatedly gave John Gabriel a ribbing for his claims of being a genius, labeling him JG 115 (i.e. IQ 115, which is modestly above average). This was after giving a polite critique of one of his long pdf essays, and receiving a less than scholarly response that indicated his lack of training and background knowledge at the level he was aiming at in some of his output. I think it is a shame that he never attempted the challenge I set him of taking the Mensa entrance test, as it might have helped bring reality into focus for him (In truth I suspect he would have scored IQ 125 in a culture fair test with SD=15, above average but nowhere near 'genius level', whatever that might mean, and no different to many university undergraduates).

However, I did not hate, or even dislike John Gabriel: I felt sorry for him.. He did seem somewhat intelligent, being either bi-lingual or possibly tri-lingual, and as an educator myself I can assure readers that teaching requires both resilience and good organizational skill. Teaching abroad I imagine even more so. However it is hard to avoid the conclusion he wasted his intelligence and desire to teach by repeatedly revisiting a philosophical error that he overvalued; apparently because of a self-destructive need for recognition and to see himself as more insightful than others with intellectual inclinations. Mistakenly seeing himself as part of an important intellectual guerrilla war that in reality only existed in his own mind. This constitutes both a cautionary tale, and a missed opportunity, as his energies could have been constructively spent on developing teaching materials for elementary synthetic geometry, something I suspect he had the potential to show talent for, which was, alas, misspent chasing an illusion alongside picking online fights for decades.

Why exactly do you think the new calculus is "mistaken beliefs"?
I have read some of his articles and it seems to me that, dispite being nonstandard, it does deliver correct results, and that it provides alternative methods for finding and thinking about derivatives and integrals. Perhaps not all his criticisms of the standard calculus is correct, but what exactly are the issues with the new calculus?

Good links. Annihilating your body is really hardcore. I don't know how
he actually died, but suicide is too scary. RIP John. If he did die in
his sleep, well, that is better than say, carving up your wrists and/or

BTW: Hoax = John Gabriel is not dead, he faked his
death, or some associate faked his death.

Our society isn't using chip implants yet that connect dead

is a lot of fraud possible, like avoiding creditors through
a staged death etc.. Mostlikely associates involved in
the spectacle could be held accountable for conspiracy.

Last but not least it would be a sign of utter stupidity if the

the paper. But I am leaning towards the hypothesis that
we indeed have here a case of utter stupidity.

Sort of reminds me of Danzig's "How the Gods Kill". That's pretty evil, though,
