It was not a part of their Fall-June Season.

TV series go on hiatus from June to September. During that time, the networks would fill the time slots with second-rate fare. Variety shows were inexpensive, required only one set, and the hosting artist and their guest come with a ready-made fan base.

The television show was a big deal all across the country in 1970, not just to the people of one small town.

The television show was definitely a big deal for the Everly Brothers in the Summer of 1970.

Deleting "to someone from Columbus" has nothing to do with what people in other cities thought about it, Donkey.

It only has to do with what "someone from Columbus" (i.e., Will Donkey) thought about it.

You have shown no evidence that it was... all that you've offered is your own sense of awe at the concept of network television.

Summer television was throwaway fare. It was a good gig, it got them some publicity, it paid some bills.

But it was a big comedown from their glory days when they were riding high at the top of the charts.

They seemed to have high hopes for the show, and even released a live double album at the same time named "The Everly Brothers Show" to tie in with the show.

Summer replacement series /did/ sometimes take off and get renewed, an example I remember was "The Glen Campbell Show", which was a big hit a year or two before the Everly Brothers got their shot.

It didn't pan out for them, of course, but it could have, and I think that they probably hoped it would, thus, the television show, and an album with heavy touring in the hinterlands to support the show.

That's my take on it, take it or leave it.
