We all know that the British Invasion brought most of the acts of the 1950s down, then the new wave of American artists such as Bob Dylan made it worse for The Everly Brothers and others of that era.

That was back around 1964 or so, though.

The 1970 tour was obviously an attempt at a comeback for the Everly Brothers, and thus, a "big deal".

> They were given a Summer replacement tv show that didn't pan out.

But being a nationally broadcast television show, it was a "big deal", making the Everly Brothers accessable to millions of viewers.

> They released an unsuccessful album.

> And ended up touring "the hinterlands"... like Columbus.

The 1970 Everly Brothers tour actually began before the television show, as the newly discovered tour list shows.

It was a good plan, and was obviously a big deal at the time, although in the end it obviously didn't work.

And so it goes.

A failed comeback attempt is only a "big deal" to someone from Columbus.

You can't blame "accessable" on spellcheck, Donkey.

So a failed comeback plan is a "big deal" to someone from Columbus?

Got it.

A comeback plan is a big deal, yes.

Yes, an attempted comeback is definitely a big deal.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out for the Everly Brothers in 1970, but a network television show was definitely a big deal, being broadcast nationwide to millions of potential viewers.

Again, the necessity of a "comeback" means that their career was in a decline.

Point proven. Case closed.

I never denied that the Everly Brothers had seen better days.

All the more reason why getting their own network television show would obviously be a "big deal".

MMP: One should also bear in mind that the Everly Brothers' career had bottomed out by 1970... so it is conceivable that they would have been performing at the Hog Sloppers' Hoedown in Columbus.

DONKEY: Not exactly. The Everly Brothers actually had their own network television show in the Summer of 1970:

The failure of which gives us all the more reason to conclude that their career had bottomed out.

But as I've said, I'm sure that it was a big deal to someone from Columbus.

The Everly Brothers had a network television show in 1970, so they were down but definitely not out.

In Summer of 1970 the Everly Brothers had a network television show, a live double album and a concert tour, so at that point the Everly Brothers were far from bottomed out.

And so it goes.

At what point in their career were they less successful?

So in 1970, they were on a downward slide toward what proved to be the low point of their career.

In a desperate attempt to revive their flagging career, they signed on for a Summer replacement tv show and cut a promotional album for it (neither of which was successful), and began a tour of small Southern towns including Columbus.

That's what I've been saying from the start, but... whatever.

You portrayed the Everly Brothers as already at the bottom, which they were not quite at.

The Everly Brothers Show was indeed an actual series, it simply wasn't picked up after the original 13 or so episodes ran.

HTH and HAND.

If the Everly Brothers Show had been popular enough, it could have been put on the next season schedule.

For example, that is what happened with the Glen Campbell Show.
