Yes I agree, there are stand alone programs for this, but as it only has to
be used with the one piece of software, it could leak out. Many blind people
use this kind of software on laptops to emulate keys that the compact
keyboard has not got, like insert, which pays a major roll in a screenreader
hotkey set.

You may be thinking of Gentian Violet. Again, if it was used for that
purpose it would be ineffective. It was(?) used for treatment of fungal
infections (tinea etc).

The itching symptom of a nit infection can seem similar to a ringworm
infection (tinea), not unusual in the scalp and common in the groin
area.

And if you're sucking it up into a pipette and don't realise that

Yes, we used to dump it in the urinals, but not for hygiene purposes, probably
having a few crystals left on the fingers was where the sweet taste was noticed ...
