That's Felix all over. He wasn't concerned about the *quality* of the
"repair", but about the price. He's a miserable tight cunt which is why
he would have rather some exhaust monkey feeling sorry for the pathetic
dickhead in sticking a glob of silicone over the hole in his muffler
rather than having me take the muffler off and weld a proper patch panel
on it that probably would have lasted another 5 years. It would have
been fixed *properly* which I've done many times, but he didn't want to
spring for the hundred bucks I would have charged him as he thought he
was being "ripped off".

The bloke is a simpleton, but then you can't expect much from a moron
who goes out and buys a Chinese head of shit car because it was the
cheapest new car on the market but then regrets it a week later when he
discovers he can't get a towbar for it to pull his box trailer and the
car has no central locking.

He's not terribly bright, and the great irony there is that he's
critical of other people that have more knowledge and experience in
their shit than he's acquired over the course of his entire life :)

Doesn't matter, it's still a bodge. If you are going to sell the vehicle
and have no scruples or if you are so broke that you can't afford a
proper job, then it's what you would do. "Fixes" like that are very
temporary.

Of course it was. It's just regular silicone. That's all exhaust fitters
use. They use it on manifold gaskets, flange joints, everything.
Including doing temporary patches on holes. It's a band-aid solution and
nothing more.

Not that Felix would give a shit as he has no scruples. He was selling
the car and was looking for a zero cost option and he didn't give a fuck
who he passed the fault onto....

So is a patch welded on the outside. What most people don’t realise is that
mufflers corrode from the inside. If you have a hole to the outside, you
can bet your bottom dollar that the inside structural members have corroded
away as well. Replacement is the only sure fire fix. All else is patching.

So is attempting to weld a rusted out muffler. Mufflers rust from the
inside out and nothing you put on the outside fixes the muffler, it
patches the hole.

Neither welding or putty are repairs, they are both bodges - the
difference is one cost him nothing and the other some unscrupulous
clueless amateur unqualified shonk would have charged him half the price
of a brand new muffler.

the retail price on a *new* replacement muffler and it's only $140 retail.

Only a class A shonk would consider welding a "repair", worse, he would
have slugged you $40 shy of a brand new replacement which would have

and he wouldn't have fixed it anyway. there were several holes and some
in the tubing. the exhaust place stopped them up until I decided what I
wanted to do with the car. if I was going to keep it I would have
replaced the entire exhaust, which included two mufflers, as it was
pretty much all in the same condition. I think they said tho that the
pipe part from the engine was ok, it was just the underneath bits that
weren't so good.
