It's all got out of proportion. Warne was a bogans bogan who's sole
talent was to chuck a ball 22 yards in such a way to bamboozle the guy
at the other end. He did nothing to to advance any cause of humanity,
but still the SEQ channel 9 news devoted more time to him than the
floods and Ukraine combined, and todays Courier Mail devotes 20 pages to
him. I know that people liked him but sheesh whats next a week of
national mourning?

channel seven devoted the first 20 minutes of their news! one third of
the broadcast! maybe when the Queen carks it she won't even get that
much air time!

You could say the exact same thing about every single "celebrity" in
history. Mozart. The Beatles. Jesse Owens. Tiger Woods. Jackson Pollock.
William Shakespeare. Nellie Melba. Eddie Van Halen. You name it. None of
them ever set out to "advance the cause of humanity" by their actions,
but the effects of their being were *enormous* and felt all over the
world. They brought pleasure to many, both directly and indirectly, and
inspired other people to greatness and still do to this day. That can
never be a bad thing, and in a world where pain and hurt get a
disproportionate share of the daily headlines there is nothing wrong in
recognising people for their positive achievements and to remember them
for the joy and happiness they brought to many.

> I know that people liked him but sheesh whats next a week of
> national mourning?

The Victorian State Government has offered the family a state funeral.
People want to pay their respects to someone who they admired and who
was recognised as the best in the world at what they did, and I don't
have a problem with that. In fact I would think someone like Warne
receiving a State Funeral is probably more deserving than some others
who have been awarded that honour in recent times.

I can't say I was ever a huge Cricket fanatic, but I liked watching a
game every now and then and always enjoyed watching Warne play as he was
a game changer. He was a *brilliant* cricketer in every respect, and he
deserves all the accolades he gets. You might not have been a fan and
you're certainly well within your rights to not give a shit about his
passing, but to dismiss the public and media reaction to his untimely
death as "out of proportion" is not only inconsiderate but demonstrates
absolute ignorance about just how popular he was.

It's up to you, but in being critical of the response to his death all
you're managing to achieve is to make yourself out to be the miserably
insensitive prick.

I dislike sporting identities being called *heroes*. Anyway, what an
end, a heart attack after a tryst with an LBFMPBFR. The Bophut police
will have remove the viagra from the scene if Warnie's travelling
companions hadn't done so already. Bad for the *public image* of Koh
Samui you see.

Not quite Warne will be forgotten within a generation, other than by a
few cricket tragics. Most of the others have left something tangible behind.

Warne may inspire a few kids to take up the game, but most of his
influence diminished some time ago.

More of an effort to get political gain from a populist move

As I originally said he was very good in a very restricted field

I'm certainly not a cricket fan despite being from a Yorkshire family,
the thing is that a lot of others equally good at what they did, whether
in sport or something actually useful have received far less adulation
at their death.

I have no idea what the public reaction has been, it's the media that
have gone overboard, a lot of people on the east coast have more
immediate things to worry about.

Whatever, but I don't think that I'm Robinson Crusoe in my view.

Yeah, I don't think so. Don Bradman is revered by many today as the
greatest batsman to ever play the game, despite his last test being
played almost 75 years ago and most people who hold that reverence were
not around to see him play and only know of him what they read in the
history books.

You might think Warne was a Bogun who is undeserving of the amount of
attention he's currently getting, but he was named by Wisden's Almanack
as one of the top 5 players of the game in the last 100 years, and he
was the only bowler to make the list.

Which happens to a lot of people after they hang up their gloves. That
doesn't diminish their achievements in any way.

Possibly, but we'll never know. They gave a state funeral to Bert
Newton, and I don't know if that resulted in any great return in the polls.

Yeah, so was Ayerton Senna. Do you remember the world's reaction when he
died?

They probably do, but their plight isn't a world wide story. Warne's
premature death is.

I read in the Herald-Sun this morning that the New York Times did a
story on Warne yesterday, and they had to explain what a "bowler" was to
their readers as most Americans would have no idea.

>> It's up to you, but in being critical of the response to his death all

You may not be, but that doesn't alter the fact that you seem to be
completely ignorant of the man's popularity, and dismissing the reaction
to his death as being unworthy for someone who's talent was "to chuck a
ball 22 yards" is ridiculous.

My wife has never been a cricket fan at all, but she filled me in on the
news yesterday when I woke up. She didn't particularly care one way or
the other apart from being sorry for his kids, but she knew this story
was going to be "huge". And it is.

Surely you're not surprised, are you?

This cock sucking attention whore has no limits, and will resort to any
kind of bullshit to get the attention his personality disorder so
desperately craves.

Agreed again 100%. Warnie was a game changer and a master of the art of
spin bowling. He inspired many kids to play cricket exactly because he
was so relatable plus he did a lot for the game off the pitch.

Keith is just a sour old insensitive cunt who only cares about boosting
his ego by diminishing other peoples achievements.

Fuck him.

Whether the coverage was over the top or not is neither here but his
comments were mean spirited. Nobody will remember keith and his self
inflating ego but Warnie (and Marsh) will always be remembered as
legends of the game for their achievements. They walked the walk.

LOL! noddy has treated Keith with kid gloves, cos he still wants him as

That may be so but I am a realist, I see things for what they are, not
what people, like you, would like them to be. A group of middle aged men
in Koh Samui? They aren't there for the beaches, better beaches in
Australia. Plus I have been through Thailand from top to bottom over a
40+ year span and have seen it from a viewpoint the average tourist has
no clue about. It's called insight, you should try hunting some up, do
you the world of good.

You taking the moral high ground is amusing. You wish people people dead
and made comments about family members that are the most disgraceful
I've ever read in 20 odd years of usenet and I've read a lot of
disgusting commentary.

Neither of you two clowns can take the moral high ground, you are both
despicable people in different ways.

But that does not diminish my repulsion of Xeno's comments or show
support in any way before you start with suggesting that bullshit as you
invariably do. Just for the record.
