You'll have to substantiate that like the Chaser site did.

There are several LNP governments to give that a fair shake.

Ahhhh, the classic True Believer. Or, as they're also known, The Compleat
Idiot. "Yes, my mob stuffed up there, but the other clowns would have been
even worse!". You can't argue with a mind capable of this level of
stupidity. It's like a club not wanting to change the players or coach
after a hat-trick of wooden spoons because, "no-one could have done any
better".

Wronger. "...i'll bet a similar list could easily be made..." is a
statement *not* an opinion, and a fact is a statement that can be proven
True or False.

Come on Trevor. Even the media was calling the 900 buck "stimulus bonus"
the flat panel TV payment :)

Yep, sad. Lots of deaths in privately run aged care facilities too. It
caught everyone out, and it highlighted the ruin that successive
governments have allowed the aged care sector to become. It's a mess,
and no government ever does anything to fix it. Not Liberal, not Labor.
No one.

> * Lack of proper containment facilities for overseas arrivals.

We used to have hostels and other facilities for overseas arrivals but
they were made redundant by the bleeding hearts who said they were cruel
and we didn't need them. *Now* apparently we do, but seemingly only for
those times when we have a massive pandemic on our hands which is like
once every hundred years or so.

Any money bet that if we had them and never used them but continued to
pay the ridiculous maintenance costs required to keep them in good order
just in *case* we needed them you'd be winging about the waste and how
that money could be better spent elsewhere.

Do you know of any other Western country that had adequate quarantine
containment facilities to deal with their overseas arrivals?

> * Relying on one vaccine and ordering back-up vaccines too late.

Bullshit. We ordered Vaccines as soon as we were able to, and the delay
in getting them to us was a direct result of the manufacturers themselves.

> * Giving huge chunks of money to companies that weren't suffering under
> COVID restrictions.

Like who? Hardly Normal? :)

History has shown that there have been very few compensation schemes
issued in the midst of a national crisis that have been means tested,
and generally because the object of the exercise is to get the money out
there circulating as quickly as possible. Do you think everyone who got
a 900 buck "Plasma TV" bonus thanks to little Kevvy was suffering and
needed it?

Most companies stuck their hands out and took the government up on their
offer, especially when the full effect of the pandemic was yet to be
realised and they needed a margin of safety. But once they realised they
weren't as adversely affected as they thought they might be the ones
with a decent moral compass handed the money back.

Jerry Harvey didn't, despite doing remarkably well during the pandemic,
and if you want to blame anyone for than then blame that slimey little
cock sucker.

> * Not trying to claw back the money.

As much as Government is about giving it to you with one hand and taking
it back with the other, you don't hand out compensation payments and
*then* take them back if you think the people really didn't need them.

> * Failing to introduce COVID mandates across the nation in a homogeneous
> manner.

Nonsense.

The Federal Government introduced whatever mandates they had the
authority to, such as preventing people from entering the country unless
they've been double vaxed for example. But unfortunately that's largely
where their authority ends, and this is precisely the trouble.

The Federal Government doesn't have the authority to tell State
Governments what to do with regards to imposing rules and restrictions
which is why we've seen such disparity all over the country, and
criticising them for something that they can't legally do is ridiculous.
In my opinion this needs to change, and to that end I'd be more than
happy to see State Governments completely abolished.

However given that that's never likely to happen, I'd settle for the
Federal Government being granted executive powers during periods of
national crisis such as during a pandemic whereby uniform national
restrictions are imposed without State Government interference.

Until that happens blaming the Federal Government for this is ridiculous
as they have nothing to do with it.

I don't know Trev, You'd have to ask them. But where do you think the
country would be right now if they *didn't* introduce the spending
measures they did over the course of the pandemic?

Disagree. Imo that title would go to the Libs of the McMahon era. They had
difficulty tying their shoelaces, using the right end of cutlery and
opening doors. The title that the Morrison/Abbott/Turnbull mob owns would
be that of 'Most Inept And Corrupt'. Cf Angus Taylor.

They wouldn't have, and it wasn't just Federally run aged care
facilities that were affected either. Both sides of Federal Parliament
are as guilty as each other when it comes to the neglect shown to the
aged care industry, but in fairness to both of them *no one* could have
predicted Covid-19 or how devastating it would be on the elderly.

All that we can hope is that lessons have been learned from this that
will be acted on.

>> * Lack of proper containment facilities for overseas arrivals.

The Federal Government is responsible the laws with regards to
immigration and/or Customs requirements, but the states handle the
detaining of those in breach of them.

Indeed they did, and when they could get it.

We were some months behind the rest of the world in terms of being able
to purchase vaccines as the drug companies were all busy dealing with
higher priority cases elsewhere. As soon as they had caught up and we
were invited to make a purchase we did so immediately to the limit of
what they were prepared to offer.

This is the thing people don't seem to get. You cannot *force* someone
to sell you something no matter how badly you want it.

The wouldn't have, and that's the point.

Just about all policies put in place to deal with Covid where rushed,
and as a result some were less than perfect. But they didn't have the
time to *make* then perfect and this was the problem. Take the hotel
quarantine "fiasco" in Victoria for example. A lot of people in
*hindsight* are highly critical of the way it was implemented, and yes,
there were problems.

But by far the *biggest* problem with it was the fact that the Victorian
government had 20 thousand international arrivals that were going to be
on our doorstep with next to no notice, and every single one of them had
to be quarantined somehow. They had less than 48 hours to come up with a
plan to isolate these people from the rest of the community while they
could be processed, and with no facilities of their own with which to
accomplish that using hotels was the *only* solution.

Yes it was rushed. Yes, there were issues. Yes, the contractors in
charge of security had no fucking idea what they were doing but by and
large it worked, and we can all be thankful that it did because we had
no plan B.

In short, the results could have been devastating in terms of spread of
the contagion and resulting casualties, but they weren't. We actually
got off lightly compared to most other places around the world.

>> * Failing to introduce COVID mandates across the nation in a

Yep, but that doesn't mean you can't blame "ScoMo" though. Just like
blaming him for the bushfire response even though we don't have a
National fire fighting service.

He's just got one of those heads people like to punch I think. Lost of
residents and media were blaming him for his "lack of response" to the
Lismore floods and claiming that the disaster would have been
significantly lessened had he acted earlier.

I don't know how he could have "lessened the impact". I know he's a
happy slapping tard, but I'm fairly certain that he could pray till the
cows come home and that wouldn't stop the rain. Moreover, he offered the
assistance of the military very early on as he seemed to have learned
something from the criticism he got during the fires, yet it was knocked
back by the SES as they were "in charge" and could handle it.

The media chose not to make a big deal out of that detail :)

Absolutely.

We're fortunate that we've come out the other side of this pandemic in
remarkably good shape. Both economically, and in terms of the human
toll. Some of that has been pure luck, and some of that is a result of
our geographic position. But you can't put it all down to luck and
isolation and have to acknowledge that a fair degree of the position we
find ourselves in today is a result of the measures the Federal
Government implemented quite early on.

As I've said. We've got off lightly. A great many countries have been
devastated.

You know when Julia Gillard was Prime Minister, she stated publicly that
balancing the budget was the "responsible thing to do", and she pledged
to do precisely that. Not once, but on eleven separate occasions.

However despite those promises, and despite instilling into the populace
the importance of doing so, the number of times she was able to balance
the budget was zero.

Not even once.

Lol :)

When you do this you remind me a lot of Paul Saccani. He used to do this
all the time in that he would assume that, as he could never be wrong,
then whoever didn't agree with him must simply not understand what was
being discussed :)

It's just as funny when you do it, too :)

Murdoch media? They would! The reality however was that not everyone
used the monetary stimulus to buy a TV. Do you have *actual numbers* of
people, as a percentage of totals, who actually *bought* a TV with their
money? Or did you simply *believe* a bunch of bullshit artists who could
possibly even give you a run for your money. So, Darren, stump up some
facts in the form of verifiable numbers to back your claim. For
instance, I call you a liar vis a vis your claims of trade
qualifications and multiple apprenticeships but, unlike you, I can back
those claims.

The common flu knocks off lots of the elderly in aged care facilities so
anyone who thought a much worse virus like Covid wouldn't kill many
times more should not be in government, now or evermore.

For the most part, the age care sector was privatised by the Libs and
simply *subsidised*.

You really are a concrete thinker, eh Darren? Let's help you a little
here. If I get the $900 and spend it even though *I* don't need it, I am
helping *those businesses* who get my bonus money so that they stay in

My god, you really do talk shit! Might I suggest you do even a modicum
of research. Start here;

https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/rp/rp0405/05rp03

Note, it is dated *2004*

An interesting point in the document;

Under section 51(ix) of the Constitution, the Commonwealth has
power over the states regarding quarantine. Where state and
Commonwealth laws are inconsistent, the Commonwealth law
prevails.(10) However, this principle proved less clear-cut
than its drafters probably intended. Between 1910 and 1919 a
number of incidents showed that the delimitation of relative
spheres of co-existent Commonwealth and State authority must
be achieved by experience and adjustment through either
repeated conflict or mutual goodwill .(11)

Just to add a little to that, the reference cited (10) is this;

When a law of a State is inconsistent with a law of the
Commonwealth, the latter shall prevail, and the former shall,
to the extent of the inconsistency, be invalid : The
Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900, section 109.

What a load of utter rot. Even Tony Abbott could see that a pandemic
would devastate this country and that we were totally unprepared for it
- he warned the government about it but it did were and we were
unprepared. Abbott is a buffoon but he got this dead right.

Thank you for *finally* admitting that Andrews did a very good job. BTW,
Andrew's effort *was* plan B. There was no Plan A. The Federal
government should have had a Plan A in place decades ago that should
have, firstly, revolved around keeping the virus out and, secondly,
dealing with leakage. Had Plan A been in place, then Australia could
have been more like Tasmania with limited Covid infections.

The Lismore flood was *2 metres* higher than it has ever been, mostly
attributed to global warming and predicted in papers as far back as the
70s and 80s. More violent and more frequent extreme weather events was
the turn of phrase commonly used. Well, Lismore's flood was *extreme*
and they got a double whammy, two huge floods in the same season. Had
Scomo paid more heed to the climate change scientists (the specialists,
the *experts*) then we may well be on a different course. As it is, we
are on a roller coaster to hell. Well, our decendants are at least.

Well Darren, it just so happens that you prove you simply do not
understand what is being discussed time and time again.

So far we haven't mentioned Clive Palmer, he wants to impose a 15%
export tax on iron ore to be used to pay down our Covid debt,
fortunately there is zero chance of that lunatic forming a Govt.

**What is sad, is that you have failed to read the Greens' policy
documents.

For my part, I've read policy documents from:

UAP - Hysterical. Nothing of substance.
Hanson - Mostly utter crap and a deep desire to take Australia back to
the 1950s.
The Greens - I don't agree with all their policies, but the important
stuff is bang-on.
Labor - Fucked, timid and simply not good enouogh.
COALition - More of the same.

They are all called politicians Trev, they are all as doggy as each
other, if anyone could be bothered they could drag up dirt on any
politician past and present.
I see the next election being between the devil we know vs the devil we
don't, either way everything will stay much the same and life will go on
same as it always does.

Given that she was one of the most unpopular Prime Ministers in
Australian political history, I have no doubt you could find *many*
occasions of lies, falsifications and outright bullshit as your comedy
article listed.

Why don't you have a crack at it Trev? Here, I help you by starting you
off with one of her better ones:

I bet that if I was interested enough to devote the energy required to
it that I probably could. But am I going to? No. It would be a waste of
time as there is nothing I could ever present you with that would make
you see reason.

I honestly don't care Trevor, but I *am* somewhat amused by you carrying
on as if the Libs are the *only* people who ever do this :)

There had to be at least one person who has bothered to read all that

Us mere mortals just watch the TV and read other news and make of it
what we can, haven't seen much from the Greens but from what I can see
their hearts might be in the right place but they really have no idea
what they are doing.
