All lanes have tthe same speed limit, 70MPH, unless indicated otherwise.
All lanes have the same maximum speed, however we always overtake on the
right nd plod can have word with us for doing otherwise.

Not that I would ever undertake, oh no.

Not so much deliberately. If anything, moving over has got better in
the last few years.

There are some who don't move out of the way and make life difficult -
hard to say how many do it deliberately and how many aren't aware.

The main problem is most new cars are so big it leaves less room to
filter in. I find the northbound approach to the Blackwall tunnel
quite narrow for filtering.

That and my Triumph's mirrors are just at transit/SUV height.

In the UK? That's not my experience.

Plenty of car drivers simply unaware that they may be in the way or
that their car is bloody wide but that I put down to being in their
coccoon and not being aware rather than deliberate.

Assuming you don't want to buy a new bike, Gen1 Superduke, ideally an SE, removing the large mirrors obviously. It was hilarious, commuting in and out of Lunnon.

In fact, cars have always grown over time, with what starts out as a
small car gradually increases size with each new model. Take the VW
range; back in the 1970s the Polo was the smallest in the range, then
the golf etc. Each generation saw each model grow larger until it left
space for a new small car at the bottom of the range, so we've had the
Lupo, Up Fox etc. (to name just a few that I recall) some of which
have then been subject to the same growth over time giving way for yet
smaller new ones.
It's continued, and still does, to happen even since said safety
fearures have been standard features for some time.

>The new "Mini" makes me laugh.

TBF that was only ever supposed to be a similar shape, not size, but
yeah, at a whole 25% wider than the original it's a great example of
cars getting bigger overall.

It's 2cm shorter than the Maxi was, 10cm wider, and 4cm taller.

The Focus now seems about the size that the Mondeo started out, and the
Mondeo has grown to be larger than the Granada was.

I've just aquired my fathers 2001 A6 and it is not much bigger than
my wifes 2018 A1. One of our neighbours has a penchant for 1980's hot
hatches. A 1987 Golf is tiny....

my house was built in 1974. It has an integral garage. Small cars of that
era, the original mini or Austin 1100 might fit in there but no way will I
get my "little" Audi A1 in there. I park both bikes in there in the
mainstand, side by side and just have enough space to walk between them.

More than half of the houses in this little cluster of houses have had the
integral garages converted to extra living space. Only 2 others nearby have
motorbikes and that includes the houses on the main drag, not just my cul
de sac. Just like no 11 across the road where some old chap snuffed it last
year, I guess my house will be converted in due course.

The Granada, that was a great car.

You'd be hard pressed to get any larger, surely.

When I moved into my 1970's house in the '80s, my Allegro wouldn't fit
in the garage[1] (well, Ok, I could squeeze out of the windows). And
then later I could use the sunroof on the Capri(s).

[1] Actually it is only a 3/4 length garage, as the kitchen was extended
into it.
I can still get 6[2] motorbikes into it, using the side passage.

[2] Down to 3 now :-(

I could get 6 bikes in my garage if the rear wasn't used for the washing
machine and small chest freezer, amd the middle wasn't used for shelving
and wardrobe[0] overspill.

[0] there is no wardrobe

My 1965 Jaguar 3.8S is positively tiny compared to modern stuff - it's
quite long but narrower and shorter.

Not that I've seen it for a while...

I had a Granada. One of the later hatchback types. I chopped a BMW318i
in for it which was a bit of mistake. It's the only car that's left me
completey and utterly stranded - it stripped one of the gears in the box
and had no drive in forwward or reverse.

My Dad had one one of the earlier ones. That one bust its crank.

Actually quite a decent car, th eciloP had a lot of them.
In South Africa they put te Grenada power train into a Cortina GT
to make the XR6. AFAIK none of them made it to the UK but ICBW.

I had a couple of Grandads, both the later ones. Really comfortable, I
liked them a lot. First one had the radiator fail, which then needed an
engine rebuild, then needed the cylinder head sorting out for unleaded

Redneck pedant.

Two words that you don't often see used together.

If I need 4 wheels, it's to carry something, so I have a truck. I put
lumber, garden supplies, etc, in the bed. I drive it less than 1500
miles a year. If I had a family, I would probably get a sedan.

(I ride my motorcycle >12000 miles per year and can carry all my
groceries, beach gear, etc.)
