Maybe not (I only had my first encounter with a Nando's after I turned 50)
but I still thought the last train was carrying sand for Nando.

As chain restaurants go I'm not unaverse to Nando's and will go there in
the absence of anywhere more interesting when I'm out and about, usually
having my chicken with the garlic bread, coleslaw and the hottest of the
sauces, which isn't actually all *that* hot (I bet they have it hotter in
Mozambique).

On that first occasion my teenaged companion took it upon herself to do
the ordering on the grounds that an old woman like me wouldn't understand
the way it worked. In these Covid days they have changed that, at least
you can still go to the counter to order but the default is to order by
smartphone. I suspect that this is something we wrinklies are going to
have to live with in future even when Covid has been forgotten.

bleak, even now. It wasn't just the School Tomorrow thing, it's also
that the whole programme was just so depressing.

Radio 1 started when I was 13 and although Sunday afternoons and
evenings never lost that slightly miserable end-of-the-weekend feeling,
at least it wasn't compounded by things like SSS, The Organist
Entertains[1][2] and the like.

We had the Wimpy Bar but only after we moved Dahn Sahf to Welwyn Garden
City when I was 11. Up on the Wirral there was the cafeteria in the
British Home Stores, which fascinated me, and on midweek shopping trips to
Liverpool with Mum and Mrs Jones the next door neighbour before I started
school there was Reece's or the Lyceum Café (which was quite posh and had
a tray of cakes brought to the table that I was forbidden from touching).
Saturday trips to Liverpool with Dad and sister, which I later realised
were to pay the HP instalments at Owen Owen's, usually involved a visit to
the Chanticleer chinese restaurant in Tarleton Street where I always had
the mushrooms on toast, which I've only in very recent years learned to
replicate (it involves a lot of butter and soy sauce).

In Welwyn to be honest I always preferred Paul's Bar, burgers and hot dogs
from the van, which sustained my friends and I through the sixth form
years.

I've always wondered why one of the regular prizes on Richard Osman's
House of Games is called "wheelie luggage" when, outside of ROHOG, I

And yes, I've heard both, but not for a long time. I'll look out the
Lead Belly again - he's always worth hearing. I'll remind myself of the
Stan Freburg, too, although SF's parodies can sometimes be a bit
heavy-handed for me.
