They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.

I haven’t clicked the vile one’s link, but I suppose that the items are
things like the ClamX folders and contents thereof in ~/Library/Application
Support and Users/Library/Application Support. These would include settings
files, plists, and the like. On this system, the ClamXAV folder in
~/Library/Application Support takes up a whopping 3.4 MB and was last accessed, prior to today, in December 2020. The uk.co.canimaansoftware.clamxav folder, in
Users/Library/Application Support, uses 4kB for a single 239 byte plist; 4kB
is the minimum size of a single file on a 1 TB APFS-formatted system. I can
be sure that there are no hidden invisible files in there, not even a
..DS_Store file as I’ve never opened that folder in the Finder... and going
into the Terminal and listing files also shows just the plist. That file has
not been accessed since March 2016.

I can afford to leave 3.4 MB or so of old files; it’s a 1 TB volume, with
301 GB of available space.

The files in the Application Support folder are there so that if I ever
reinstall Clam, I don’t have to recreate all my settings, some/most of them
are already set.If I did want to do a complete cold install, deleting the two
folders in Application Support would be trivial, and would allow a clean
install.

There should be one more file; that shows that the free trial has been
complete. It is invisible, and I won’t be telling ol’ yellowstain its
name or location, so that he can try to cheat and get a second free trial.

The Terminal knows all, sees all... if you know what you’re doing, which
leaves the idiot out, he hasn’t got a clue.

It should be noted that my ~/Library/Application Support folder has files and
folders dating back to 2005, some of which belong to applications that I
haven’t used in years. (theUsers/Library/Application Support folder only
has stuff dating to 2013; an Adobe folder, currently empty, as I nuked all
things Adobe on this machine with extreme prejudice.) I could clean it (them)
out, but why bother? It’s a 1 TB volume, and the files/folders add up to a
few tens of megabytes. I years past, when I had smaller drives, I cleaned up
the various files left behind after deleting apps, but I haven’t bothered
in a long time. They don’t do anything (checking to see if they do is
trivial...) and they don’t take up significant space.
He’s being an idiot. As usual.

I gave some: if and when you reinstall an app you might want the same
preferences, for example. In other cases it is a file that allows you to keep
your license. There are others which are placed in specific folders so the OS
knows how to do a specific thing, and those should be removed -- but to leave
them does no real harm. They tend to be tiny and harmless. If there are
drivers and the like left behind, though, that can be an issue.

Thanks for the detailed answer. Full disclosure, I didn't look either.
I don't think an uninstaller or cleaner should claim to completely
uninstall all of something unless it actually does that, but that's
marketing for you. Who would use it if it claimed to only remove almost
all of what would otherwise be remnants?

You will no doubt have the same files hidden away on YOUR computer as
you have also downloaded EtreCheck.

What if they actually ARE nefarious?

Do you care enough to contact the developer to ask why they are still on
your computer?

If it's *my* drama why has DB been banned from venues with people saying
much the same as usenet readers have about him?

I do not KNOW why they are still on my computer, nor do I know whether
or not they are nefarious.

I would never have known they were present unless I'd gone looking for them.

Successful malware can remain hidden for years.

How would you feel about contacting JD and discussing this whole
scenario with him?

Is there any app that does not leave such files behind? And are they launched
or used in any way?

Not without reason.

They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.

Ah. They’re EtreCheck files, not ClamX files. Hmm... I have an EtreCheck
folder in ~/Library/Application Support. 1.8 MB. Contains reports. And
there’s com.etresoft.EtreCheck4, inside Users/[username]/Webkit. 79 bytes.
Site info. And com.etresoft.EtreCheckMAS, In Containers. 66kB. Plists. And
EtreCheckPro, in Application Support. 16 kB. Packages.

Again, they’re support files, so that if I uninstalled I’d still have my
settings if I later on reinstalled. Those who know what they’re doing can
look inside plists and packages and see what’s what. And the reports can be
read by any text editor or word processor, they’re bloody _RTFs_.

Anyone who wants to see what those files are, and is even half-way competent
(so... not you, vile one) can bloody well look themselves. And if they want,
can simply delete the entire folders, All of them.

You’re an idiot.

Yet, that hasn't stopped you from trying to slime people, to the point
where you get banned/shunned.

I've no need, I know how the files get there and what they generally do.
I've stayed out of it because you ignored me the last time I tried to
help you. There's no upside for me as you don't listen anyway: that, and
I get your 'friend', Glasser, crawling all over the conversation with
his childish bullsh*t. I'm still waiting for the hypocrite to help you
with what you asked for in the last thread he turned into a pile of
sh*t. I will only ever help you when I feel like it and I'll do so in
the manner I believe you deserve (designed to make YOU do some of the
work). I'll say it AGAIN: IMO, you and your 'friend' are lucky anyone
ever responds to you on any topic.

Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger.

They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.
