Yep, that was the gist of it. IIRC he worked out he neded 30-50k up front.

I suggested he do it in Chile instead, no one would have worried about
it there :-)

Met a guy while I was in Uganda, he does tours like this in South

The view on Street View from outside my house is April 2021 (obviously
bin day) but there's an option to back through several iterations (six
or seven) to 2008.

My Dad was in the RAF, seconded to Singer Link Miles at Lancing for a
project. We moved when it finished (to RAF Marham).

Chesswood Road Middle.

I went to Steyning Grammar as a boarder (along with a lot of other
forces brats) in 1979. If I had stayed in Worthing it would have been
St Andrews, I think.

Very impressive sight, Steyning Grammar when viewed from the A27, even
better than Arundel Castle/Cathederal IMO.
I knew a bloke who I think went to SG, he had a Messerschmitt 3
wheeler, the one where the passenger sits behind the 'pilot'. Reverse
gear entailed starting the engine backwards and the passenger (when
instructed) had to stick their arm out the window to turn the fuel tap
onto reserve........good times :-)

go there!

Steyning Grammar was the merger of Steyning Secondary Modern (imagine
Kes) and Steyning Grammar (built in 1614, imagine Upstart Crowe). They
kept the posher name.

It was a huge place on two sites - 2700 pupils and a 110 boarders.

I went there only ten years after the merger so the ex-grammar school
teachers still wore gowns and the secondary modern had patches on their
elbows.

Grange Hill meets If.

I was at Gillingham Grammar (est 1923) when it merged with Rainham
Secondary Modern in 1975 to be come the Howard School.

1865 boys there the year I left.

Rainham girls School over the path - which was patrolled by dogs with
machine guns.

Open hostility and resentment on both sides, teachers and pupils, was
still transparent when I left in 1980.

Integration helped by having the GS kids in forms named (for example)
as 3alpha2 (can't get the symbol to work), and the RSM boys in 3A2.

GGS boys played rugby, RSM played football.

And so on.

The chapel at Lancing College sticks out, not just because it was always a landmark coming home from childhood holidays in the south-west, but it just looks so solid and imposing up close, a real beast of a building. That and St Pancras Hotel are my two favourite buildings in the UK.
