and I die instantly. Somehow I did kill one and got a bunch of runes.

Tried another with wolves but they were too slow to attack so I died.
I had the bad guy target.

What did I do wrong?/

Try on foot, and sneak up on them, preferably for a backstab.
You can try to use the assassin's approach spell to help with
the sneaking, as you can run while sneaking with it.

When they do their 'claw' you can roll left or right and won't get
hit if your timing is good, not too hard on that attack, or you'll
sometimes roll out of the area.

Their melee attacks are nasty though, try to roll toward them
when they look like they're doing those unless you're far
enough that you think you can roll far enough away to avoid
them.

For using the wolves, you may want to stay on horseback, and
lure the mob back toward them, keeping the wolves between
you and them. Once the wolves have agro, do a ride-by attack,
then ride off and again, and repeat.

For your seal, you may want to try the claw seal since you've
put some into strength, it scales more off of strength. You
also want to try two-handing that as that increases strength
by 50%. You should've got it from the big beast guy there.
The spell he gives you is also pretty good short range and
low damage, but very fast and cheap to cast.

If you didn't get that yet, you may need to kill the skeleton in a
boat first, which is north of the warp you got there with.

For other spells, as I said, go check with the prophet guy at
roundtable, he sells some, and if you find any books
you can give those to him so you can buy more.
He has Flame Sling which is like the pyromancer starting
spell in DS3, and may make it easier to kill the militia. He
also has Cure Poison, which is very useful if you don't
have the curing bolus recipe yet. Some people also
swear by Catch Flame, but it's a melee fire spell,
it does a lot of damage, but I find it too hard to use.

There's a spell in kind of the middle of Weeping Peninsula
across a bridge to the south that is one of the best
faith spells "The Flame of Frenzy" which looks utterly
insane, you may want to try to go down there for that.
There's also 2 or 3 sacred tears to upgrade your flasks
with in the temples along the north coast of the Peninsula.

Once you can get past Margit, there's a spellbook
behind one of the stone imps you have to use a key for
that has Black Flame which I found really good too.
You have to give the book to the guy in Roundtable to
buy the spell.

Oh there's also a spellbook with faith spells behind
two more stone keyed imps in the basement of
Roundtable. It has the Assassin's approach you already
have, and Darkness which blinds for a second so you
can hide, but I haven't been able to figure out how
to use that effectively, or assassin's approach for that
matter.

I will look up the claw seal. Is the NPC you are talking about the
big thing in the building where the site of grace is? It only mumbles
when I press E. Maybe I should look in my inventory? I wasn't t old
anything.

Okay - I lured Margit out and went around him and jumped and galloped
to the Stormhill Shack SOG. Then I eventually went back in through
where I came out and killed a few guards but I didn't notice a stone
imp. Do I have to find it through the gate?

My reading says it's a very good weapon. I haven't tried it in this game,
but the broadsword is pretty good in DS3, I just prefer a longer weapon.
I'd try to get it to +3 so you have a +3 weapon at least. I think there's
one for sale somewhere so you can try powerstancing (dual weild)
where you attack with both with the block button instead of blocking.
I usually find a shield better, but some enemies it's better to go
nuts with a pair of weapons.

You may be able to pair it with another straight sword, like the longsword,
which might be better since you then have a little more range in one of
the attacks.

Keep an eye out for a couple art of wars in Limgrave. There's two that
are sacred, which might work well on it if you continue investing in faith,
as they can make some of it's damage holy which scales off of faith.
If you keep going more strength, you want one that's heavy instead.
There's also the bloody slash there, the weapon art does a lot of damage.

Held my own at Farum greatbridge (Bestial Snacton). Level 26 now and
my vigor is 20.

Hmm... Maybe I should go spend some money and get my sword to +3 at
the roundtable.

Those guys are tough but I finally used my Assasins Approach and as
long as I locked into one at time and kept wailing away with my fast
sword, it worked great. Can I use Assasins approach and then switch
back to my shield? I did that and I had yellow shoes so I think the
answer is yes :-)

Yes. I forgot to mention since it's second nature to me, when you
backstab, wait a beat then start charging a heavy attack, you'll
get one off for quite a bit more damage just as they're coming
out of immunity from getting up. Heavier weapons you have
to start doing immediately, really light ones like daggers you
have to wait a little longer.

I noticed that sometimes I get a backstab thrust right off the bat,
and then sometimes not at all.

I really screwed up! I sold my only smithing stone by accident. I
thought I was buying one from that merchant in Church of Ellah.

Not I have none, except for one Somber stone, whatever that is for.

And the only tear I have is a crystal tear that I can use in the
Wondrous Physick. I thought it came with some.

I guess I messed that one up too!

There's a mine past Stormveil that has a bell bearing you can give
to the two-faced merchant in Roundtable that allows you to buy
them, so it's not a great loss.

I just remembered there's a mine along the north coast of
the Weeping Peninsula too, that one doesn't have any areas
that you can't get out of, and the boss is probably one of
the easiest in the game. There's some semi-nasty semi-
flying mobs in there, but they can mostly be dealt with ranged.

Make sure you pick up Fire Sling in Roundtable, that should
help a lot with the ranged attacks.

I just picked that up on my Samurai turned cleric, and it's
certainly helped a lot. I just lost my runes at the same
two knights that I couldn't get past with my Prophet,
so I'm not sure starting Samurai helped all that much,
though it was feeling much easier previous to that.

No, I had that on one of my first character, I couldn't figure out
how to get it to work until I had two. I'm not sure it will work

that leads to Grayrolls.

tree in Weeping Peninsula too, but you have to fight a giant
tree person that's pretty hard until you get the hang of it.

Sling it shouldn't be too bad.

I will keep looking for smithing stones!

My Confessor is now *heavy* according to it's stats!

I don't see much of anything that I have, and anything that I need to
store! I do not have much!

He still seems pretty quick when fighting.

I will review your previous post about weight and storing. I am back
to the same old problem about having trouble getting things in and out
of the chest with the keyboard and mouse. I think I hooked up a
controller and figured it out last time.

Yes. It just occurred to me, you might be thinking Stormhill
which also has a passage from that first large camp of soldiers
with a troll (naked ugly 12' tall guy with a sword) and ballista
and a bunch of soldiers. If you follow that you get to another
ballista and enter a passage to huge mazelike castle, guarded
by Margit - he has a cutscene and is a pain. I spent more time
on him than any other boss since. That's Stormveil.

I did try the shackle on him with my Samurai, it appears to
only be of use if you have no summons or ashes as it stops
him only for one attack on him, twice, which will likely be
used by the ash for little damage. I suppose when he
kills any summons or ashes it'd be useful to get a breather
for healing and get one charged heavy attack on him, or a
long cast time heavy hitting spell.

The one mine at the north of the lake has a place you can't get out
of until you kill the boss ...well or die and go back to the grace, not
the stake - the stake puts you in the area you can't get out of.

There's a couple more mines in Caelid that are traps. You don't have
to fight the boss, but you can't go back the way you came.

Yes, you can buy a memory stone from the two-faced merchant
there - those give you a slot each one you find.

Thanks. But I read that in order to activate them I have to beat the
boss Godrick the Grafted. My Confessor is only level 31 and I don't
think he is ready for it!

You just buy or find a memory stone and you get the spell slot immediately.
There's another one in the east part of Weeping Peninsula too.

What you have to activate is the Great Rune once you get it. Then you
have to use a rune arc to get the benefit. The Great Rune stuff seems
needlessly complicated to me, I had to look that one up after I couldn't
figure it out by the time I got a second one. It's pretty worth it, as the
Godrick one gives you +5 to all your ability scores until you die. But I
still hoard the arcs even though I've got like 50. You get one every
time you kill a boss, or are called as a summon and help kill one.

You might be thinking of remembrance which comes from rune bearers
like Godrick, which you can turn in for a weapon or spell.
