Any incantation will work with any seal as long as you have the stats
for both.

The godslayer seal is superior to the finger seal if you have the stats
for it. However if you're going to invest in a seal, with even just a little
bit of strength the clawmark seal will be the best (assuming the same
plus)

I have been using the ClawMark Seal for a long time.

You explained Seals to me a while ago. I am still confused what their
purpose is why they are needed. I guess they are a type of "agent"? A
sword cannot work on it's own?

If we are talking about the same giant, I killed it once just using
kukri-s but had to kill it again because I went to another site of
grace. I wanted to get the Golden Seed that was under an erdtree down
the cobblestone.

This time, it only took a few whacks with my sword.

How do I tell how many I have? I don't see any in my inventory.

You *can* do that I guess. It's a decent wepon/with great weapon art
when you're facing mobs of weaker enemies. You can eventually get one
without killing her. I couldn't do it, she's too good :)

She should be there in a room south of the troll to talk to, after which her summon
sign will appear right outside the grace/fog wall to help defeating Godrick - as I used
her on 3 characters to do so. However they've fiddled with her quest, so it's possible
they changed something since I did that some time ago.

It's possible you used them all up. If you rest then check your inventory
slot as if you're going to throw them, it should show how many you have
currently that aren't in storage. Any in storage will automatically be moved
to inventory up to the max you can carry after resting.

and golden seed in a room on the right. All set for the big fight!

But I think I am done with Stormveil Castle for now until I get
stronger and more prepared for the Ulcerated Tree Spirit and Godrick
which are left.

Not sure where to go next again in the meantime.

Yeah that tree spirit is a major pain. Godrick's easier than Margitt IMHO
though, especially if you summon Nepheli.

You did most of the area north of the castle? I'd check around there,
make sure you didn't miss anything important. The city in the middle
if you already did all that. There's an underground area Ansel River
I think. You can go to that from a long ride down an elevator there
with ants that's probably a good spot next around that area.

I have been underground in some river drainage but I was only level 20
or so. You told me it is for at least level 60! But I did okay then.
It was really blue-ish and bright with glowing thugs that shoot arrows
in your back.

I forget the name. Been thinking about checking it out again.

I would do all of the lakes regions including the academy in the middle
where you have to fight Rennala, the moon queen/goddess. I'm not
sure there's a lot there that's useful for faith/strength, but once you
defeat Rennala you can respec your character if you want. I never
bothered so far. The Radagan Icon talisman might be worth it as
it shortens spell casting time considerably, but that's not as effective
on most incantations. So that's a maybe. There's a few level 3/4
smithing stones (+7 to +12 upgrades or +3/4 somber) scattered
about too. You can skip it if if you find it too hard/annoying.

Then both underground regions Ansel River - there is a boss there
that I found pretty hard. Giant half-dragon guy that throws lightning
around. As well as Sofia River (accessed from Linwood.) I would
wait on Sofia River until you've started Ranni's quest which is in
the NW past the castle with the giant hands at the lakes.

After that it's either Calid or Altus (North of Lakes, accessible through
the mines at the northmost end.)

I'll also mention there is a better farming spot, but to get to it requires
following Varre's quest (guy in white mask near the first tree sentinel,
he moves to a church in the lakes after you beat Godrick.) in which you
ultimately have to go online and invade (PVP) 3 times - you don't have to
win though. Either that or going through a lot more of the game to get
to it. You can look up videos of how to get there by looking up "bird farm"

I found it pretty hard to get to the farming spot even doing Varre's quest
though, there's some mobs that can one shot you there, even at very
high level you have to get through to get to it.

I have not been keeping up with any quests that I somehow started. The
details disappear from the screen too fast for me to write anything
down.

I need three Golden Seeds to increase my flasks. I only have two. so
maybe I should see if there is an easy-ish place to get another one
before I take on Godrick. But then again, I think I only used one
when fighting Margit. Don't know what happened there. All of a
sudden the fight got easy after a few tries.

I know that the Ulcerated Tree Spirit Boss will yield a Golden Seed
upon defeat but I don't think I can handle that fight from what I have
read. But, I only have 3K worth of runes right now, so nothing to
lose if I can find the fight.

I need to wait for the last two fights for when I have time during the
day that I won't get distracted by something else! No nightime
fights!

No, I played Jedi: Fallen Order (good star wars feel, gamplay is meh.)
I'm on to StarWars Battlefront II - though it's mostly an online squad
PVP game I understand, The single player campaign is excellent so far.

You'll naturally level up as you go along as long as you keep an eye on
your runes and spend them when you get enough to do so.

As I've mentioned before, levels aren't really all that important. All
you really need is somewhere between 40-60 vigor for hp - and even
that doesn't matter that much until you have the flask upgrades to
make your flask heal that much. The minimum stats for your weapons
and spells (faith requirements on some can be pretty high though, like 60)
Maybe some endurance depending if you use spells or weapons more
(I didn't put any in on my Astrologer and I still mostly used weapon arts)
Maybe 22-30 mind (I did 40 on my Astrologer and that was way overkill)
if you use spells, no more than 22 if you just want to use the best spirit
ashes.

Weapon / Seal upgrades are the most important thing for damage
and you have to go collect all those you can. There's some smiting
ball bearing around you can give to the two faced merchant in
roundtable, those help broaden your lower level weapons.

Of course the better weapons too - mostly the special ones that
use somber smithing stones which are easier to find. You'll
really only have enough normal stones to get a couple items upgraded
until you reach end game.

Still sounds to me that a player must rune farm to get anything to
that level. Unfortunately, the videos I watched are in tough to get
to and tough to survive places like Caelid,...

Organic level upgrades to not seem to be part of the game.

I just got a Golden Seed and a Sared Tear in Lurnia of the Lakes. The
seed made #3 so I could finally upgrade my flasks.

I just looked at a few webpages about upgrading seals, like the
Clawmark and GodSlayer and it doesn't seem very important. I upgraded
the Clawmark Seal to +3. Not sure if I should spend the runes doing
that any more.

I have lots of good weapons now. Maybe they are considered beginner
ones like the Bloodhounds Fang (stuck at +2 because I need level 2 or
3 Smithing Stones to upgrade it any more. Also a Uchigatana, Winged
Scythe and a bunch of others that I can use with my stats right now.

When I compare the stats on my Quality Broadsword (the Confessor's
standard issue weapon) +5 to my other weapons, the others don't have
any near as good stats. But I do not know exactly how to read them.
Not at all sure what something like "Strength + 30" means. What does
the plus mean? Also, some are red, some are blue. I assume that
means bleed and magic?

I think you should try God of War. I know, I have 146 hours in Elden
Ring but GoW is probably my pic for GOTY as of this moment. Read the
Overwhelminly Positive reviews on Steam!! :-)

They definitely are. I ended the game at 171 I barely if ever rune farmed
for levels on that character, just for upgrades on weapons and
spirits, which I didn't really need, mainly because I wanted to try it all out.

You don't really need all that much to begin with, what I've said to get
is really just what to aim for by end game.

They are well worth it for damage spells - if you use them. If you just
use healing/curing/utility then no, not really.

I really like Winged Scythe, there's so many good weapons it's more
preference.

Not sure what you mean there, I guess I'm forgetting things already. :/

I might check it out if it goes on sale or something. I enjoyed the original
on the PS2 but it wasn't anywhere near my favorite.
