I looked up to see how far along I am... I'm not quite halfway through the
game! I never thought I'd complain a game is too big, but my god!
I'm over 100 hours on my Hero as it says in game, that's probably a lot
more accurate than the steam #s as I at least quit out to the main
menu when I leave. I am looking in every knook and cranny and trying
to make sure I don't miss anything, which is probably a fools errand.

I finally started running into roadblocks, there's 3 bosses I'm having
trouble with and can't get around. My Astrologer and Samurai turned
cleric are catching up.

My Astrologer is having a lot more trouble with some of the bosses
and enemies that my Hero just breezed through though. I do have
an easier time with some mobs because of the high range and
tracking on magic spells, I got to one of the bosses I'm stuck on with
my Hero and did no better though.

My Samurai I found some
really good faith spells right after Stormveil - specifically there's a
dragon cult book that has lightning spear which is very good, and the
rot breath and ice breath dragon spells from the dragon cathedral in
caelid are really good too. That along with having sacred blade on
my katana - which when I use the weapon buffs it with holy and allows
it to kill skeletons permanently and it scales off faith letting it do
pretty good damage. Faith with just enough arc for the dragon spells
seems like it's a good substitute for pyromancer, lots of tools and
good damage, and enough physical stats to use a decent weapon.
You have to go a bit off course to get the good dragon spells, but
it's pretty easy to trek there once you know where it is (discovered
with my Hero before I did that.) You do need to kill a dragon first as
you pay for the spells with dragon hearts, and that's no mean feat.

I wonder how long it will be until I lose attention or enthusiasm.
Probably when I can't beat bosses or get frustrated. Or when
levelingg up doesn't make a difference.

There was a post on reddit (that I can no longer find) about a guy
pleading for help with his Confessor (me) with Margit and others and
that it doesn't seem to him how much he enhances his character and
what tactics he tries he still cannot beat it.

I think he wished he picked another class.

I will have to jot that down and look for those.

I really need to get the mechanics down. I still do not know or am
not comfortable with Ashes, Incarnations, and combat basics among
others. I spend a lot of time studying web pages, about the same or
more than playing the game!

I should just practice in a safe place, if I can find one!

I am basically must hacking enemies, no real technique.

I did level up endurance, now I can carry more and probably move
faster.

But I am wondering if I should stick with the same armor (or lack
thereof) that my Confessor came with or buy some (and what) or use
something I have found (nothing useful, really - I just sold a lot of
it).

Armor is of some use but you have to get pretty into numbers and
how things work to get much out of it. The heavier the armor the better
usually, though there's also the light roll advantage which is better
if you want to keep distance and used ranged.

One thing I'd suggest is keeping
at least one set of the millitia armor you get from those guys in
greyrol as it has high immunity which you can put on when you find
yourself up against anything poisonous. Once you have the poison
and rot curing spells it's not quite so important, but it's still nice
not to get poisoned as often. There's some good magic resist
armor as well, but that's past Stormveil. There's a lot of headwear
that has special passive abilities that can be changed out when
you want different things. There's one scarab that decreases
the fp for incantations, but you take more damage that might be
useful. There's one set of armor that all gives stacking small
amounts of regeneration when under 20% that's pretty good,
again that's a bit later again.

I will try and find Greyrol. Having fun at the Weeping Peninsula.
There is a merchant there but I have almost enough ruins to up to
level now and I don't think the merchant has a whole lot for sale. I
did get a smithing stone. Need another memory stone or two to use a
couple incarnations. Can the ones I have no room for be swapped out
to a current memory stone? But I want to keep Heal (although I have a
stronger one but I think I have only been able to equip the one my
class came with) and Assasins Approach. Maybe I will try the flame
sling on the giant. Maybe it will burn :-) I have to practice the
lone wolf ashes and others. I don't know things well enough yet to use
them in a big fight like Margit. What a pain that one seems to be!

Don't know what the floating jellyfish are all about. I went up to
one and there was no conversation. So I smacked it and it turned red
and attacked me. And those aren't the usual bats I am used to. The
skeletons are easy. Don't know what the glowing figure is outside the
Church of Pilgrammage. It didn't say anything usefull as far as I can
tell. The big giant knight throwing the spears is pretty impressive.
I think I am going to trot past him and see I can get into the castle.

Not many high-yielding runes yet so I don't want to take a chance on
some of the tough guys until I spend them on leveling or purchases.
Then I can take a chance on the Giant there and that big Knight and
others and not be afraid to lose alot of hard-earned ruins!

What are the little yellow or red sparkly things that surround me
sometimes when I am just standing around or on my horse? They look
just like what happens when I kill something and get their runes.

Also, sometimes after leaving an area there is a red or green or
yellow (but mostly red, I think) progress bar in the middle of the
screen.

What does that mean also?

Could be a buff from a talisman or armor (especially headgear) you're
wearing maybe? Do you see any buffs under your stamina bar with
what looks like a yellow bird claw with an up arrow?

I know I get that from being in groups which gives you a rune collection
increase buff often too, but I doubt that's what you got.

That I've no idea, I don't think I've seen. Maybe Torrent's health bar
which always seems to disappear unless he's hit or healed. I'm
not sure why it would be showing when changing areas though.

This is an environmental buff that occurs occasionally, depending on the
weather. Yellow sparkles I think means increased rune collection, blue
should have something to do with FP, though I'm not certain I've seen any
blue.

I think you may be right about the yellow ones. I know about the
ErdTrees at night sometimes drop them or something like that.

There so much to do on the Weeping Pininsula! Thanks for sending me
there!

I unlocked some purple area with a stonekey. Couldn't handle the boss
so I died. Actually, I didn't actually try too hard. I should mark
it before I leave the area but there is already a symbol on the map.

I think it was called the client hero of Zamar

What is up with the walking stone church with the bell and the
glowing, headless things that are easy to kill. It is by the fourth
church.

And I got a winged scythe. Need to look that up.

Didn't see much at the mechants there that I thought I needed,
especially the lost merchant by the shore.

Those 'Gaols' are good places to practice on harder enemies, since if you
die your runes are left outside the arena to pick up with no trouble, so no
loss.

The mausoleums are a tiny puzzle to get to stop. I think one of the
papers you can buy off merchants explains it, I forget now. Their use is to
re-purpose the 'remembrances' you get off major bosses, but I'm unclear
beyond that having only got the one for Godrick. This godrick remembrance
acts as a major powerup that lasts until you die when you consume a 'rune
arc'. It can be sold or traded also but I'll hold on to it for now. I've
just been mostly exploring and fighting smaller bosses like dragons and
'minor erdtrees' (both easier to beat than you might think). Also I've
gotten interested in the minor NPCs, which nearly all have small storylines
and fetch quests, so fully exhaust their dialog trees when you find one.
The maiden and weaponsmith in roundtable hold is one such storyline, talk to
each of them more than once. I look them up online in case its not clear.

Oh boy, somewhat complicated stuff but I am going to take on the ones
you mentioned when I am not afraid to lose a bunch of runes.

Here are some things I haven't figured out at the weeping p:

I fell for the transporter trap in the chest (sort of knew about it)
and I think I got the reward at the top of the tower.

Why is there a site of grace at tombsward. Don't see anything
worthwhile in that area,

Glowing door above it that won't open. I couldn't find anything
around the building. Killed all the wolves and the purple dude that
looks like Randy Johnson when he pitched for the Diamondbacks :-) and

I galloped past the big knight throwing the huge but accurate metal
arrows. Went in there. I think there were worshippers and fire and
"dogs" there with a monster in the back. Got close but it went after
me. I tried to talk to it. I think I read there is something to get
there. I think that is the place.

Morne castle, ya. First hard boss at the end, but probably the easiest.
Explore the castle fully. Did you talk to the girl in the valley
beforehand? She has a mini-quest that involves the castle....

That one's worth looking into, good reward. Look around the area some
more. A hint - "seek" means kill which wasn't obvious.

Yeah, not sure what's up with that area. You can farm up some gravity
stones there, probably not worth the effort though.

A great faith weapon, requires a good deal of strength and dex for
that early though. I played around with it a little using some of the
talismans/great runes that temporarily boost stats. Didn't quite
seem worth the extra investment, but not sure.

It would be nice if ER had a quest log and journal book like God of
War does and others do. I can only write so fast before things
disappear from the screen.

Three wolves are wild beasts. The alpha one being white. Out here I
think the usual alpha is black but I am not an expert. No white
wolves that I know of.

Okay. I didn't bookmark it so I need to find my way back. But trying
to do so, I have found a bunch of other interesting places.

I am not going to mess with the Earthborne Cave yet. My weapon is
only +3 and I read a suggestion that it should be at least +5.

I have smithing stones now but not sure where to go for those or just
find or buy another weapon.

Any way, I am done playing until Monday. Busy, busy, mostly cooking
my butt off until then.

Each stone gives you another slot for spells. You can put
whatever spells you want in them, change them out
at a grace while resting.
