How are egg prices where you are?

I was pleasantly surprised when doing my grocery shopping yesterday -
extra-large eggs were down to $2.85 per dozen.
This was in northern New Jersey.

That's exactly what we paid for a dozen free range eggs yesterday
(converted to US dollars, of course).

I haven't checked in a week or two. I have half a dozen left, still.
Hopefully, I'll have a good surprise at the store as well.

In the EU, cage eggs are banned. In a slightly less civilised country
like Australia, they're still allowed. As you all know, I'm strongly
against bashing the US, so I won't mention that country in this
context.

The barbaric Ukrainians still have lots of cage egg factories and the
EU ban on cage eggs doesn't apply to food items that have eggs as an
ingredient. Until that's addressed, consumers with a heart are advised
to avoid food items where the ingredient list doesn't specifically say
"free range eggs".

It's about 7 bucks/dozen on this rock. The ones I got last time was pretty goofy - they looked like sick eggs.

The eggs I bought are from a local, family-run egg farm, which claims
its products are cage-free and organic.

BJs has 3 dozen X-Large for $10.99. 5 dozen large for #14.49.
2 dozen cage free for $8.69
Breaks down to per egg .305, .245, .362. Not long ago they were over
50 cents.

Yeah, butter is through the roof here, too. I'm well stocked but I'm sure
my brother and sister-in-law will be stocking up if they have any sales
around Easter.

I bought an 18-count Eggland's Best a couple of months ago.
They actually cost about 30 cents less than the cheap store brand
at the time. (Normally more expensive)

They're "Vegetarian Fed Hens" with extra vitamins added to their feed.
No mention of Organic or Free-Range

On the package they say, "America's Superior Tasting Eggs"

Well, nothing superior tasting to me. Only difference I noticed was that
their shells were noticeably thicker/harder. Guess they get more calcium
in their feed.

My husband thinks they taste better. I'm more than willing to humor him.
He also thinks the grocery-store brand cage-free eggs are tasty.
I see those are down to $2.89/dozen for XL. I'll probably switch to
those on Friday.

Eggland's has a cage-free line of eggs, and one of organic eggs.

Their website has some happy talk about how good their caged hens
have it.

Last week I bought some eggs from the local farm stand. Size varied
from X-large to small, but the one other difference was the shell. I
imagine you can put a caliper to check but much harder than the factory
eggs.

Did not cook or taste any different. Making soft boiled would have been
more difficult because of the size variation though.

I can spot a local egg quite easily. The yolk will have a reddish cast when compared to a mainland eggs. Things have been quite chaotic in the egg market for the last year. The eggs are just funny. Mostly they just look and act weird. They seem to be of low quality. The good news is that local eggs are now the same price as mainland eggs. The bad news is that they're over $6/dozen.

I've heard people tell me that EB taste better. I haven't noticed a
difference myself, either, but I did recently buy that brand instead of
the store brand. As Gary said, EB was actually cheaper than the store
brand, which usually doesn't happen.

Why buy XL eggs? My grandmother buys the Jumbo ones... I don't get it.
Unless you're only frying or boiling them, about every recipe is sized
for Large eggs; which is all that I buy.
