This is a terrible tragedy and I'm sure I'll get a lot of sympathy.

I'm on Day 2 of a broken ice maker in the refrigerator. Not jammed,
just no ice. The appliance guy does not think he can get here until
Thursday.

It is living like my ancestors did in Poland in the 1860s. My
grandparents came to America knowing that they will eventually have an
ice maker in their refrigerator.

Right now, I'm taking ice from a bag. It is much more labor intensive
than just putting a glass under the dispenser. I'm going to have to do
this for at least four more days. Won't be easy. No frozen margaritas
this week.

Look at the positive, Ed! Your towel warmer's still working!

Wrap that ice in a clean dish towel, pound the hell out of it until you can
approximate shaved ice for your margaritas. Or if you have a blender
you could try your hand at pulverizing it with that. I'm sorry I can offer
you no help than this. You are in my thoughts.

We had "plumbers" working on our condo. They didn't reconnect the dishwasher, or the ice maker. That's just in the kitchen. In the upstairs bathroom, the shower and the toilet leaks. These guys have been contracted to do our entire complex. I'm on the board but am thinking that I should resign because my guts tell me that the board is going to get sued. Heck, I might even sue the board.
As far as the ice maker goes, I'm going to just replace the fittings to the water supply and the line to the freezer. The kit from Amazon was around 23 bucks. Amazon and Jesus saves!

Can't these "plumbers" be called back to fix what they got wrong, at
no cost?

Beats me. We already complained that they re-tiled the shower with a completely inappropriate tile but they don't care. My immediate problem is that they tiled over the access to the water cut-off valve in the shower. I need the water off to replace the shower valve but I can't get to the cut-off. I either need a way to gain access to the shut-off at the line or I need to cut a hole in the tile to get to it. Why would you tile a wall if the valve leaks? I don't know. That's the question I'm gonna ask when we sue these bastards.

I'll save you the $250 service call and let you know your freezer
still makes ice just fine.

That'll be $10, thank you.

Ice dispensers are all prone to failure (and there have been a few
class action suits about them despite arbitration agreements).

You just need an ice maker, not a combo + dispenser. I bet I can
help you fix it before thursday, saving you the two-fitty.

What brand and model is the fridge? Find the test button on your
ice maker and press it for 4-5 seconds. What happens? Is your
water pressure up to par? If the fridge feed is attached to a
home valve, open it some more. Is your water filter clogged?
Try just removing the filter to see if it has a filter bypass
mechanism (if the water dispenser still works, then it does - no
filter required). Ave your tried deleting cache and cookies? (OK,
that was a joke - that never solves anything).

And then we'll take it from there. Setting timer for Wednesday
night... On my mark...

His complaint is that he has to reach into a bag first, before it
reaches the blender or whatever is used to crush it - Too much
extra effort.

The fridge doesn't dispense crushed ice (even when it works).

Samsung fridge. Usually, it would get a stray cube or two jammed and
I'd thaw it with a hair dryer. Water and filter are fine. No test button
I'm thinking water valve. I did shut the circuit off for a minute to
reset if there is something for that.

Actually, you have a choice of cubes or crushed. I do use it if making

To do... what? Disconnect everything? Because plumbers usually
don't just go around "inspecting" stuff and leaving everything
disconnected and making things leak. They were there for a
reason, presumably.

The likelihood of that fixing anything is near Zero. Didn't you
just say it needed reconnected? Wouldn't that be easier? Or are
you just being lame and dramatic?

None of that makes any plumbing sense unless you live on a planet
that has totally different pluming than Earth.

I find it hard to believe they tiled over the valve(s) that turns
the shower on and off. Your next shutoff valve will be down a
hallway (outside your front door), or in the carport/garage.

You say you want to replace the shower valve yourself, but you
clearly have no plumbing sense. Or you suck at explaining
everything. Can't Google save you?

Ah yes, my forte. French door, water filter between the vegetable
drawers, right? (mine is way up top right)

> Usually, it would get a stray cube or two jammed and

OK, so water stream is up to par and pissing fine. We'll find that
test button. Is there a manually accessible ice bucket? Is there
ice in it? What's the model number? We'll run the diagnostic
mode. It may sound like there's a FedEx truck backing up in your
kitchen for 15 minutes while that runs (mine beeps obnoxiously
loud) but its saved me hundreds of dollars. And when that didn't
work, I arbitrated a win.

I've fixed my ice maker 5 times now. And I just ordered the
thermoplastic beads from TEMU today to finally help me fix that
ice sensor arm (I made the last one out of Crazy Straws(tm) but it
didn't last but 4 months).

Model number begins with RF...usually followed by the cubic
footage and assorted other numbers and letters at the end - Posted
inside left of the fridge. I have all the service manuals, and
this should be no harder than manually extracting ice from bags 4
times day.

You got the right idea. It's easier to use the circuit breaker
than unplugging it. But don't ever do that more than once in any
2 hour period. The selinoids and condensor don't like that.

Huh - it turns out there *is* a crushed ice model of Samsung. I
correct myself in that other post (if you indeed have that model).

Drat. Yeah, I just figured that out myself. One of the rare times
I was wrong. Does it make actual margarita ice, or is it still
too chunky for that?

Another point of failure. I just fixed the little "garbage
disposal" in my dishwasher sump (yes, all dishwashers have little
garbage disposals in them). It's literally a cheap little meat
grinder thing. If you've used a meat grinder, you'd laugh at
this. It uses the same mechanism of a blade rotating flush up
against a holed plate via extrusion. But it's lasted 35 years
until I had to intervene, so it apparently mostly works (GE
Dishwasher circa 1988).
