Actually it was the early Seventies. I haven't bothered to look up the
year. That's when some "scientist" genius produced the evil of
chlorofluorocarbons and created "global cooling". Politicians took note
and junk science flourished from then on. Oh, and meteorologists started
calling themselves climatologists, because that's where the money was.
I *do* know that no politics were discussed in any of my chemistry
courses in the Sixties. I graduated in January of '69.
Remember, I lost my job as an aerosol chemist to that clown belief, so I
have skin _and_ animosity in the game.

in doomsday scenarios, most tend to be engineers. The ones who are most
pro-dooms day are gender-scientists, social scientists, eco scientists
etc. with very little knowledge about physics and math.
