interviews and science lectures. Turns out that's not what people
wanted to see. The trash on TV isn't selected by the stations, it's

Don't call my wife silly. She has her own business and her own bank

It's basically symbolic that she wants to pay; it's really all the

They aren't, at least not for learning about culture from. The reason a
sitcom like "Seinfeld" is funny is because all the main characters are
insane sociopaths, not because they're like most real humans.

One hopes the audience is in on the joke, I doubt some alien species
would think much of us as a species if they took what they saw on our
sitcoms as an accurate portrayal of life on Earth.

People go to YouTube for stuff like that now; there's a "long tail" of
niche entertainment, "shows" that get millions of views on the most
obscure topics like the activities of a man who goes around his
neighborhood clearing storm drains and sewer grates that the local DPW
seem to be too busy or lazy to handle.

My late father worked in the TV biz in the 60s and early 70s and claimed
he sometimes pitched ideas for documentaries like that to local network
executives who naturally thought it was a silly idea, who would ever
watch stuff like that. Lots of people, apparently.

Imagine if some far future society had to like try to recreate Earth of
the 21st century in VR for some guy who'd been in stasis for a thousand
years and only had the observations and notes of engineers of the era to
go on. Sounds like an idea for a sitcom right there.

There are petabytes of videos around now, and a lot of that will be
archived basically forever.

We don't know much about how people actually behaved and talked
hundreds of years ago, we we are pretty well archived now.

I'd expect that your guy would be comfortable in a far future world.
There will still be beds and doors and ice cream and things. The
burger meat may be grown in vats but will still taste good.

In Star Trek they have matter transporters that can transport people to
a planet's surface instantly from space and they do this all the time,
but the spaceships are still filled with doors and elevators to get
around. I guess using them a couple times a week is OK but getting
beamed in for dinner three times a day would be too much.

The Enterprise still had beds and chairs and bars. I can't remember if
it had any stairs.

What we like is mostly wired into our genes, and that won't change
much in a thousand years. We are not much resource limited now, so we
can live in whatever sort of house we like. So I'd expect future
houses to be similar.

Sometimes people design weird dwellings, cave things and geodesic
domes and such. Their resale value is low because most people don't
like them.

Our previous house was an 1892 Victorian. The new one was built in
1992. 100 years delta and there's not a huge difference.

My general advice is to not generalize too much. The fun stuff is
mostly the corner cases. Being confused is under-rated.
