Ukraine will be able to pay. They have oil and gas in the Black Sea, one of the reason why Russia want to cut them off. We need to send them more anti-ship missiles. It should be reciprocal responses, return fire when fired upon.

Estimated $100B (1/6 of annual budget) is small potato. Most of the money is for R&D anyway. Ukraine is just a delta-test-site.

In term of geo-political advantage, Boris Johnson seems to be getting the best of it. He is very popular in Ukraine, perhaps to redirect his political problem (party-gate) at home.

It might have been if it had been the walk-over that Putin seems to have been hoping for, but taking over a war-ravaged country is a very expensive exercise, and he's unlikely to get close to even that.

The pitiful Russian GDP is just the bottom-line indicator of a country
mired in corruption and incompetance. That's probably historical to
the culture and also a legacy of communism.

China's per-capita GDP is even lower. Cuba is yet lower. Viet Nam
barely moves the needle.
