It relies upon good guys to do the right thing despite there being no
enforcement.

nope. in fact, they go well out of their way so that they *can't*.

perhaps read it first.

Apple is trying to calm fears by baking in privacy through multiple
layers of encryption, fashioned in a way that requires multiple steps
before it ever makes it into the hands of Apple¹s final manual review.
....
The results are uploaded to Apple but cannot be read on their own.
Apple uses another cryptographic principle called threshold secret
sharing that allows it only to decrypt the contents if a user crosses
a threshold of known child abuse imagery in their iCloud Photos

the entire design is so that apple *can't* scan photos.

the images are matched locally, much like anti-malware apps and email
spam filtering works.

*if* and only if a threshold is met, there's probable cause that the
user has csam material and then and only then, does apple look at the
relevant photos (not the entire photo library) which have been visually
degraded to obscure the content but can still be matched to known csam.

that's very different than what google, facebook, microsoft, etc.,
does, who can see every photo uploaded in the clear. not only do they
scan them for csam, but also to data mine its contents of the photos,
including location (to know where you travel), type of photo (sports,
family, scenery, animals, etc.) and face recognition on the people in
them to build a social graph.

that's a lot more invasive, which apple does not (nor cannot) do.

Thank you. I will do my very best to remember that.

On a slightly different tack, does Apple scan material on its iCloud for
malicious material? Viruses, Trojans and other malware?

If so, is one's iCloud Drive EXEMPT from such scans?

Perhaps you don't know. This is, I realise, digging quite deep.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA

It's been an *interest* since I was scammed for £245.00 back in 2005.
Our High-Tec Crime Unit (as was) recommended that I should learn as much
as possible about such things.

I was looking at a DVD from 2007 yesterday and found this item:-
https://jumpshare.com/v/YwJyiDM5EWHnYBOkB6vJ

Have you ever used BugHunter?

You know that Apple CAN scan the iCloud for malware?
Is that right?

And that iCloud Drive *IS* INCLUDED in such scans? Is that correct.

No. I'm just old! :-D

Personal attacks from those who troll show their own insecurity. They cannot use reason to show the message to be wrong so they try to feel somehow superior by attacking the messenger.

They cling to their attacks and ignore the message time and time again.

This is a now a 40" monitor, so the 72 character jerks piss me off even more, all that over there is white space!! ---->

My eyesight is normal, so I can in fact jump from the end of line 7 to the beginning of line 8 across a 40" screen without a thought. Anybody who can't, I don't care about.

It's a shit server, it's overloaded, or they have a slow internet connection. Not sure you can tell what systems they have without asking.

I guess that would have meant you can't release the money, but I'm sure it's easy to sell a boat.

And you can't call it a typo when you changed 4 letters.
