That's what Harshman said in different words, about "lytic mode," except
that he had to retract and say that he didn't think anyone knows
how the coronavirus does major damage to the body.

In fact, I've only heard of the lytic mode in bacteriophages. Can anyone
reading this find an example in a virus that infects a eukaryote? an animal?
a vertebrate? a mammal? a primate?

Of course, the issue of the moment is one that infects Homo sapiens,
but this being sci.bio.paleontology, our species is very small in the
grand scheme of things.

to the general readership. That is because I am trying to convey the truth,

And so, when I replied to jillery, I skipped all the character assassination by

My on-topic questions about her FTR had to do with, successively, eukaryotes, animals,

in which the word "Ancient" is the key to why it is on topic
to talk about the coronaviruses the way I have been doing.
It refers to viruses that produced their effects on vertebrates,
and indirectly via evolution on us humans, many millions of years ago.

The thread has been delayed because, as I was continuing my research on the topic
last weekend, I realized that it is a topic with many facets that I hadn't learned about
before, and I have to put a lot more thought into it. Perhaps it will only be delayed
