Looks like something from the flood bot.

I have no interest in making a flood bot of the type you use. I doubt David
does either... he has directly said he does not like the bot!

*I* "noted" it, *you* said the following (which is still above):

"To use it you need to know AppleScript (or JavaScript, I suppose)."

A clearly false statement as he can "use" it to run scripts without
knowing eiet AS or JS... and now you're changing your tune as you
pretend you're me.

AGAIN, you're not me, please stop that, it's creepy.

You being the author, I guess you'd know. To me it looks like it's just
choosing a random statement and it relies on two args being fed to it. I
guess if your life's work is a crappy bot, that's all you see.

.... stopping DB or yourself from 'doing' what you both 'do'? Seems that
way. Kind of an odd position for a 'friend' who is a 'teacher' to take.

I noted he could run "ANY AppleScript and many JavaScripts" in the Script
Editor, and you feel the need to add that it could be done in the Script
Editor. Your ability to follow a simple conversation is slipping.

Notice your need to snip away key context to push your drama.

More of your pedantic nonsense. Without "AppleScript (or JavaScript, I
suppose)" the Script Editor is of no real value.

Your need for drama and your word games are absurd.

More of your insane drama as you show you do not follow conversations at all.

1) Carroll repeatedly lied to get me to talk about what I
said could be done with AppleScript:
<b498827e-ee8d-45e7-9b1a-2a8ce7a0c3b4@googlegroups.com>
<f47a48e6-1c74-4cfa-8f89-ce72ea34e7ef@googlegroups.com>
<62b1764e-f84b-458d-9bf0-ca3c3b04a238@googlegroups.com>
<aa20334a-9970-4dc3-8e02-231ad54feb9b@googlegroups.com>

2) Carroll posted with multiple versions of his name: "Steve
Carroll - fretwizzer", "fretwizzer@gmail.com", and "Steve Carroll"

3) The bot changed names ONCE and posted with that name 12 times
in rapid succession (1-3 minutes apart)

4) Carroll spoke of altering his GG script to deal with such
name changes:
<d278fe60-ce88-403d-95a2-6f108edeb1de@googlegroups.com>
-----
And now that stupid bot is making me have to
change the plugin again. Why doesn't it use your name
for the next 6-7 years?!
-----

Carroll went into more detail here:
<cfdaff72-cc8a-4186-8045-59256f6f30ff@googlegroups.com>
------
> Carroll, wouldn't it be easier for your script to parse
> the from line, specifically looking for a matching email
> address?

Of course, but that slowed the plugin down considerably.
Remember, this is GG, not something like slrn (which I
also use).
-----
Note: not it WOULD slow it down... it DID.

And still later (after the rapid name changing):
<8fa8f193-7470-4360-b91c-a64c3cf583f0@googlegroups.com>
-----
I don't see floodbot posts unless i want to so I miss this
stuff.
-----

Amazing that right as Carroll is finding a way to be able
to block the bot's new name-change trick the bot happens
to be using that trick.

5) The bot started changing names with every post.

6) Carroll denied his comment about his GG script:
<07c19d79-ec94-4c27-9ed6-199a61ac8e09@googlegroups.com>
-----
I actually never mentioned what it was that prompted me to
change my plugin, despite it possibly appearing that way.
-----

7) Carroll worked to confuse the timeline:
<4831f570-da42-4869-ae0f-9a64d0ddc338@googlegroups.com>
-----
LOL! You *just* used the term"after", not "right before",
even in *your* version of the timeline
-----

8) Carroll predicted the bot would start wrapping lines:
<2c51348f-5b6b-46a7-ac17-6a35abe84c32@googlegroups.com>
-----
Injection-Date: Tue, 03 Mar 2020 00:13:39 +0000
...
As soon as Snit works out the carriage return/line feed
issue on the 'AZ code' he's working on in ACW, he'll add
it to his flood bot.
-----
And, gee, another prediction by Carroll comes true:

<7a734216-a0b7-4d29-af97-3244ef09ae80@googlegroups.com>
Injection-Date: Tue, 03 Mar 2020 03:02:57 +0000

The prior posts, at the very least in COLA, did not wrap:
<918fa752-fc26-43d7-82f5-edd596aa7677@googlegroups.com>
<75449fb9-1514-4122-acb3-c48909f9678c@googlegroups.com>
<794c783f-70a1-4128-8f65-0048248670b8@googlegroups.com>

Less than three hours after his "prediction" the bot made a
very specific change based on a design goal Carroll spoke
of. I cannot find where this goal was mentioned before.

Carroll tried to tie this to *me* here:
<6decab0d-349f-4d92-92aa-98b0ae642d03@googlegroups.com>
-----
> It mostly works but ignores line breaks.

Imagine that! You have a line break issue... now what else
have we seen a lot of that has the same problem? I just
know it'll come to me <eyeroll>.
-----

My comment was about INPUT for reading lines where it was
not seeing the line breaks. NOTHING to do with ANYTHING
Carroll pushed it as. Once again he takes things out of
context and shows he is able to make predictions about the
flood bot in amazingly specific ways.

9) Carroll shows a video of him being able to automate name changes:
<4bd94929-5514-4022-8f8d-de1b7b072325@googlegroups.com>
And the video is still there:
<https://streamable.com/yrwa5>
At some point Carroll will likely remove it.

10) Carroll admitted ALL of the code he has shown "for years"
has been tied to bots.
<rqebpk$f4d$1@fretwizzer.eternal-september.org>
-----
> An "entire bot"? Meaning you are saying it is part of one?

That's all any of the code demos I've shown you are, for years
now.
-----

There is certainly a LOT pointing in one specific direction. I think it is
safe to say it is proof beyond any reasonable doubt.

It is and here are a few of the things you could 'teach' DB with it:

1. How to write a function and call it with arguments in AppleScript.

2. How the use of the phrase "some item of" works.

3. How to concatenate variables into a string

You could simplify by starting with a single statement that uses one arg:

on testimony(name)
return "I, " & name & ", promise that I'll stop... well, you know."
end testimony

testimony("DB")

What you snipped:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More of your pedantic nonsense. Without "AppleScript (or JavaScript, I
suppose)" the Script Editor is of no real value.

Your need for drama and your word games are absurd.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you spent half as much time on comprehension as you did on your drama I
suspect you would be able to understand what you read.

And yet you claimed I was the author of that code that seems to be what the
bot uses, or something similar.

You blame me for YOUR behavior.

That code that seems to be a part of the bot or something similar is YOUR
code, or at least code you introduced to the group.

You have now shown you have code to post AND code to produce the content or
something similar. Are you still going to deny you run the flood bot?

.... so it this:

set weatherData to {}
set fileName to "weather-data-session"
set dataFile to (((path to desktop folder) as string) & fileName & ".txt")

on saveWeatherDataToFile(theData, dataFile, overwriteExistingContent)
try
set dataFile to dataFile as string
set opendataFile to open for access file dataFile with write permission
if overwriteExistingContent is true then set eof of opendataFile to 0
write theData to opendataFile starting at eof
close access opendataFile
return true
on error
try
close access file dataFile
display notification "Your weather data was not saved! Ask your 'friend' for help."
end try
return false
end try
end saveWeatherDataToFile

tell application "Safari"
activate
tell document 1
set URL to "https://wttr.in"
delay 10
set weatherData to do JavaScript "document.querySelector('pre').textContent"
end tell
end tell

saveWeatherDataToFile(weatherData as text, dataFile, true)

But DB is not ready for that yet.

With that URL.

In my terminal it looks like this:

<https://i.imgur.com/eVoNo3t.png>

The file output is pretty lame but you can add other things to it or
grab it as HTML and recreate it. You could geek out and create a custom
HTML page that has the weather, a joke of the day, a recipe of the day,
local fishing reports of the day, movies currently playing locally, etc.
and set it as your home page. I'm glad we had this talk and I was able
to help you. It's a nice change.

What URL is your flood bot tapping into?

Your bot changes output based on weather? Or does it report it? I do not
generally read it.

>

Your bot's output is crap. As I have said, if I ever made one -- and I have no
desire to -- it would look more like my chat bot and respond to content. Yours
apparently responds to weather and ignores content. Seems stupid to me.

I have no desire to create a floodbot such as yours.

Whilst there are hundreds of thousands of residents, relatively few will
be users of Apple computers. Of those that are, they will be in a wide
range of ages. JD is around age 54, not dissimilar to the age of SC.
I therefore conclude that there is quite a good chance that they /may/
actually know one another!

There is certainly a chance... though not sure if Mac users have a greater
tendency to know each other.
