I camped on the northumbrian coast. Ladybirds going 'ping' on the canvas
and sliding down.

And then going out just to stand in the rain, for the novelty value.

A good year.

That was the first time I heard the phrase "hosepipe ban", they've
got quite common now though.

I remember ladybirds being in 1975 when I was doing my A-levels, as
after each one we'd go to the pub down the road from fpubby and have a
pint or two while fighting off the ladybirds in the garden. That was a
real olde-worlde pubbe (as in smelly and with an outside rather
primitive toilet) which was knocked down about 35 years ago and replaced
by a far more modern one, which was more recently knocked down so that
Birmingham University could stick a sports centre where it had been.

Most electric grinders are choppers that overheat the coffee as
they chop it and wreck the flavour which doesn't matter if it's tSraubkcs
style caffeinated charcoal but is a terrible thing to do to good coffee.

A decent electric burr grinder will set you back a few hundred Zu
and it still won't have anything like as large, slow and cool grinder as
the Spong and it will be nothing like as reliable (it might last a decade,
I don't think anyone has ever worn out a Spong).

They really do a better wbo of grinding coffee than anything else
they're indestructibly reliable, and it's surprisingly little effort to
grind - unlike those stupid wooden box with a handle toys which are
completely useless.

You are not counting byzanthium.. or the city that claims to be the `new
byzanthium', Moscow. I like pointing out to people that it was the
semi-christianized Rome that fell to the Vandals, not the old pagan one.

Actually, I think that law has been abandoned, I have moved on to
tyskie, which suits my digestion.

Recently, I watched a utube video about Polish politics. People saying
rosaries, priests droning on, and along the back wall in front of which
polliticians were talking (I don't speak an Polish) was a line of
Tyskie adverts. Still good beer.

Wine must be french, even the worst is better than Spanish. Do people
still go over from England and bring back trunk fulls of wine?.

A good year for me, too. SWMBO and I had just moved down to Hampshire from
Lancashire. We sold the house that we'd paid 5000zu for 10000zu and felt
quite smug until we had to shell out 13000zu for a house down here. I had
moved from a job where I had to go to sea frequently on a small,
uncomfortable fishing boat owned by Lacashire County Council to one where I
travelled abroad a lot at Her Majesty's expense (when I wasn't manning the
phones in the drought office). And, best of all, our first anklebiter[1]
was born.

Yerst, it may have been oblody hot but 1976 were a good year for me.

[1]I'm suffering from more literal ankle-biters atm. The gardning is full
of mossies. SWMBO has instructed me to fill in the garden pond (not going
to happen).

Get some frogs; my mozzie infection is mostly due to keeping buckets of shower water for garden irrigation.

Not Frogs. Not Irritation (but SWMBO does like to feed the slugs)

Unlikely - I have a Spong runner bean slicer which I inherited from late
fambly, and dates from 1940s or maybe 1950s at the latest.

Bottom feeding omnivorous fish, like carp, other fish are available,
might help. Mosquito nymphs make admirable food for many bottom feeders.

OTOH, if the garden pond is used for water plants, like water lilies,
you might not want bottom feeders in your pond.

For some people mosquito bites, acquired in the UK, are more than a
minor irritant, forcing them onto anti-histamines during the season and
visits to the doctor for treatment of infections.

Hirondelle, man, *Hirondelle*.

But hmm ... a bit of vinho verde'd go down nicely on evenings like
these. It's Portuguese, Pshirley ?

Glodfish is the plan. Plenty of amphibians and predatory insect larvae in
there already, and most of the time they are enough to keep the mossies
down - I think it's this spell of warm wet weather that's caused the little
blighters to breed faster than usual. On previous occasions when this has
happened (every few years) I've chucked a few small glodfish in - seems to
work, and they thrive for a few years (until the next really cold winter).
Trouble is, they eat all the intersting pond life as well. Voracious little
hooters, your glodfih.

Local golf course had some sort of iron spread on the fairways and
greens to get rid of moss, it turned them dark purple (overdoing it?),
as the land was leased with pages of conditions, it finished up in
court.

I read that Kenneth Brannagh is to act as bonking boris in some new
film.
