JOOI, I had a check on my current and previous houses.

I bought the first in 1980 for (IIRC) £16k. Now Zoopla reckons £200k+.

I part-exchanged it in 1997 for the current house - total amount I paid
was about £95k. Zoopla now reckons £400k+, which surprised me
considerably. Only about three years ago, the six-bed double garage
detached house round the corner was selling for £300k.

As someone in the process of trying to do the same, it doesn't always
work that way.

If you're more rural but still have good transport links to London
(whether you need them or not) then you're likely to be paying a
premium. Ditto houses in good school catchment areas.

Then again, "more rural" from the Isle of Dogs is quite a bit different
to "more rural" from Sandhurst!
