he’s yammering some bullshit about ’ticked boxes’. I figure that he’s
gone to Software Update and clicked on ‘automatically keep my mac
updated’. _Apple_ isn’t ‘monitoring’ his Mac, _his Mac_ is contacting
Apple on a regular basis and checking if there’s anything new since the
last time. And if he was stupid enough to check other boxes, once something
new was available his Mac would install it... just as he had told it to do.
He’s so stupid that he doesn’t understand that _Apple_ isn’t
‘monitoring’ a damn thing, his Mac is doing the communicating... at his
request. All he has to do is to uncheck the lttle box and his Mac stops
yakking to Apple (compare all the crap you have to do to get Windows to stop
yakking to Microsoft...) and, even if he has the ‘check for updates’ box
selected, if he doesn’t have the ‘auto download’ and ‘auto install’
boxes selected all that will happen is that there’ll be a little red badge
on System Preferences and when System Preferences is clicked there’ll be
another little red badge on Software Update. Users can go to Software Update,
have a look at the available updates, select all, one or more, or none of the
updates, and go about their life... and Apple neither knows nor cares about
their choice. There is currently a little red badge on System Prefs on this
Mac; the pirates at Epson want me to install a ‘driver update’. As that
‘update’ causes the printer to start to whine about non-Epson ink carts,
it ain’t gonna get installed. Our David almost certainly has auto install
turned on; no red badges, or at least no red badges for very long, but all
kinds of crap dropped on the system automatically... just as he told his
machine he wanted. THE IDIOT WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO TURN ON AUTO CHECK, AUTO
DOWNLOAD, AND AUTO INSTALL AND THEN TRIES TO SAY THAT IT WASN’T HIM WHO
GAVE PERMISSION FOR STUFF BEING AUTOMATICALLY LOOKED FOR, DOWNLOADED, AND
INSTALLED. He’s severely brain damaged.

yep. he explicitly configured his mac to automatically download and
install updates, and much to his surprise, it's doing what he told it
to do.

> _Apple_ isn¹t Œmonitoring¹ his Mac,

of course not. nobody wants to monitor his mac or anything else related
to him.

just imagine what they would find. on second thought, it's best to not
think about that.

yep.

if only there were a self-destruct box to tick.

better yet, a remote destruct button. just think how many people would
want to click it.

Those don't look harmfull. Microsoft has stuff like "Send 'anonymous' (yeah right) usage data to Microsoft to improve our products."

Mind you Apple state....

"We believe that law enforcement agencies play a critical role in keeping our society safe and we’ve always maintained that if we have information we will make it available when presented with valid legal process."

https://www.apple.com/uk/privacy/government-information-requests/

Apple grass you off!

Almost everyone knows you are a *LIAR*, Wolffan.

You have concocted stories about me which are totally and completely
false. That is the way of a coward. You are one sick puppy. Sad. :-(

the truth burns you, vile one. at least one of the RATs was a Windows RAT,
pretending to be a Flash updater. you ‘joked’ that as it was a Windows
RAT, and was posted to a Mac newsgroup, it’d not cause any trouble.

nope. all true. you just can’t stand being revealed to be the vile creature
that you truly are.

you’d know about cowardice...

you’re sad, all right.

Unfortunately based on the macroeconomics they have little choice. They have
stepped in, at times, to back human rights more than most other makers --
which is not to say they do this enough.

Things have changed. Apple could build factories in the USA and, just
like the Chinese, staff the factories with robots which Apple,
themselves, could now design and build!

IMO, that is exactly what they SHOULD do - and withdraw from China
altogether.

How automated are the factories? If done with very little human workers
perhaps... but from what I understand there are still a lot of workers. The
cost of labor is much lower in China -- which means any hardware maker which
goes with a place where costs are much higher would likely have to charge more
(though Apple could also get a lower profit margin and still be fine).

It doesn't bother me at all. Microsoft do it too and, if the truth be
known, every man and his dog on the Internet is gathering personal
information.

in fact, they go out of their way to mask what they do collect when
possible and not collect it at all if it's not needed.
