That makes god evil. He's now extremely depressed and needs me and several friends and neighbours to look after him. God could have taken them both together. I think he's lost faith too, he was a baptist minister, but I saw his recycle bin absolutely crammed full of books, and the only books he had were religious ones.

So big-headed as I suspected. If someone asks you to do them a favour, do they have to give you a great big long explanation?

Absolutely not.

There are no pockets in shrouds.

He's not yet dead and could have many years to go - his brother was 9 years older than him when he died recently. Why has he thrown out all his books?

He's got a cook, an electronics expert, a tradesman, his son, and some good friends from the church looking after him. Cleaners and a gardener are upkeeping the place. I think he's just lost and lonely. He needs some hobbies but I can't think of what to suggest as he's had shaky hands since he was 30, so jigsaws, monopoly etc are out of the question.

i understand that you're clueless about both manufacturing and foreign
policy, along with everything else.

the tariffs curtailed the usa's involvement with china, with negative
results for just about everyone.

tin foil, aisle 4.

it's not possible for a 'spy' to be installed in an imac, iphone or
anything else for that matter without *someone* detecting it.

a *lot* of people would need to be in on it for it to even be remotely
viable.

the only time my posts do not is when it's very obvious and no proof is

there's nothing to correct.

my links are rfc compliant and thunderbird is broken.

the issue is well known and its authors aren't interested in fixing it
or any of its other numerous bugs.

thunderbird is broken, and this is just one of its many problems.

It doesn't work in Claws (either), nor do any Claws plugins help.

There have been ancient discussions in news.software.readers about how
to keep Thoth (and others) from wrapping long url/s, but in a long msg
such as is under discussion it would have been tedious to do the
business w/ wrap and unwrap by Thoth.

In my experience of watching discussions of this type, the business of
embracing w/ angle brackets doesn't solve the url wrapping problem very
often, regardless of what some ancient RFC may have said.

The workaround in Tb is to view the source, capture *only* the url
inside the angles (which angles are of no benefit to anything here) and
paste the clipboard reglued url into a browser addressline.

It is true that Tb is not a strong news agent on several levels,
particularly filtering such as scoring, regex, wildcards, and more
recently a discussion of msg fetching by m-id.

This discussion is being cross-posted to too many groups which are
unrelated to each other; ordinarily I would've filtered it.

do not blame thoth for being compliant. <> delimiters are widely used
and supported and have been for years. they eliminate problems due to
wrapping and embedded whitespace in a url and so that it is also
clickable.

it's not ancient.

many words to say thunderbird is broken.

in non-broken apps, not just newsreaders, simply click on it.

And the vile one has run away. Again.

Hey, ol’ yellowstain: you _know_ that i’ve installed Clam in the past...
unless you ‘forgot’. Again. Cut back on the alcohol consumption, you’ve
destroyed all but one neuron in your brain, and the one neuron left isn’t
doing so well. You _know_ that I’ve got Sophos; you _know_ that I’ve got
Malware Bytes; again, you just ‘forgot’. Again. As usual. Your
‘challenge’ was, and is, utter bullshit; I’ve installed and uninstalled
Clam multiple times, and have NEVER found any malware in its wake,
particularly not any rootkits... and I’ve looked.

So which rootkit do you think (using the word loosely, that one poor
alcohol-soaked neuron has severe problems) Clam drops? Let’s have a name or
something to ID it. And why haven’t you brought this rootkit to the
attention of Apple, or to CERT (you know, the guys who issue CVEs...
https://www.cisa.gov/uscert/) so that they coulddo something? Hellfire, thou
useless git, why haven’t you just packaged up all the evidence you have and
sent it to assorted gov types in the UK, US, etc.? Could it be because you
have nothing beyond a ‘hinkey’, and actual real computer security
investigators (as distinct from stalkers and trolls such as yourself)
aren’t impressed by ‘hinkeys’?

Damn but you’re an idiot.

Here, the only problem that appears more than once in a blue moon is
links split over two lines. But copy+paste fixes that. Otherwise, the
few links I click work every time. (Win10-Home-64, TB 78.13.0)

Caveat: I very rarely click on links, even from family and known
vendors. I prefer to type the vendor's name or the subject of the link
in the browser's search box, and go from there.

Best,

That is probably the situation for most Usenetters!

Why don't you click on links? They are VERY convenient.

Glad to hear it. Things cost a lot more to make with safety.

It sounds to me as if you know the cost of everything but the value of
nothing.

Apple sets the standards which others try to emulate. A bit like Rolls
Royce.

No. Yesterday YOU misunderstood what I had said.

Go back and check.

I have TWO Apple iMacs on my desk (here at home!) You are aware, of
course, that a fellow Brit. designed them! :-D

apple is the first company to reach $3 trillion market cap, which means
the market for top-end products has *not* diminished. it's quite
strong.

Correct. I'll have a go at rephrasing what I meant.

We both agree that Apple products are at the top end of their chosen
markets. To my mind, the best that one can buy.

The Mac Pro is at the top of the tree. I 'repaired' one last year for an
English professor (Mike) who lives nearby - sufficiently well for him to
recover all of his data. I had never seen one before. I was most
impressed with the quality of the whole machine; it still looked and
felt like new but it was more than ten years old!

Mike had decided to purchase an iMac as a temporary measure when he
first encountered problems with his Mac Pro, even though he can afford
to buy the best of the best. He was so impressed with the performance of
his iMac that he decided that replacing his Mac Pro with a new one was
simply unnecessary for the things he now does.

Now that the iMac and iMac Pro are SO good, I suspect that sales of the
Mac Pro have declined (but have not reviewed sales figures).

Do you have any EVIDENCE that Jony Ive didn't do a good job?

I wouldn't dream of buying the 'new' iMac though. Read ....

//We need an Apple Grey series, designed for aging users who don’t have
20/20 vision, the manual dexterity of a brain surgeon and the patience
of Job.

Luckily this exists on some dusty Apple shelf. It’s the 2011 version,
unsullied by a decade of tomfoolery, luddite upgrades and studied
disregard for computer ergonomics. Re-issue it, and I’m willing to bet
it outsells the current dog’s breakfast.//
