I don't think they have any choice to be honest. Their health department
is under budgetary duress, and they don't have the facilities to deal
with a large number of ICU patients, or the money to afford cater to it.

We're not out of the woods yet, but we are certainly moving in the right
direction.

QLD's biggest problem is their unbelievably slow vaccination rollout.
Whether that's a result of a complacent population or the State
Government's inability to provide an adequate delivery service (or
perhaps both) they are a *long* way behind the rest of the country with
a double dose figure of 67.8% (as of yesterday)

Well, almost all of the country. Western Australia is doing slightly
worse than QLD, but you can kinda understand that. WA is *so* far behind
the rest of the country that the HQ Holden is due for release there in
January :)

A lot more people will die if we don't see higher vaccine rates, those
living in remote communities who need to be educated as they are
resistant to having the vaccine and their take-up rate is low. They are
also extremely vulnerable.

So maybe you would be happy to sacrifice them... but that's why you're

That's the thing, people in Vic and NSW got vaxed because they were
shitting themselves about the high rate of COVID in their community, in
QLD and WA there is little or no COVID so many are relaxed about it.
Personally I got vaxed as soon as it was available, and am getting a
booster next month.

It would have been a stupid comment on anyone's part, but coming from
someone who at the time was acting as a State Chief Health Officer it
was utterly *bizarre*, and did absolutely *nothing* other than play
right into the hands of every anti-vaxxing moron in the country.

Making her Governor is just an insult on top of it all. She should have
been dismissed on the spot and banned from ever holding any official

restrictions applied down here in Vic also added to the sense of
vaccination urgency, with people just wanting to do whatever was

How about a recent case where it took 000 eight and a half minutes to
*answer* a call. Do not ever lay shit on the health systems of other
states unless you can adequately assess the adequacies of the health
system in your own state. My impression of the Vic health system is of a
disastrous avalanche slowly gaining momentum, an avalanche that began
when Jeff Kennett gutted the state's health and education systems.

When I moved to country NSW, I expected the health system here to be in
a similar parlous state to that which *currently* exists in Victoria. I
was wrong. When I had my heart attack in February, I was in theatre
being operated on within the half hour. Had I been in Melbourne, I would
have been lucky to have passed through triage in a couple of hours, and
who knows how long I'd have had to wait to be operated on.
Thanks to the NSW health system, and to your utter chagrin Darren, I'm
still here to haunt you. And haunt you I will.

Neither of your options are correct. Your cognition sucks! I have seen
*here* that the best way to combat the anti-vax message is to have a bit
of an outbreak. Amazing how, when that happens, heaps of the anti-vaxers
*get the message* and start crowding the vaccination centres. People up
here have, in the main, been doing a good job keeping Covid safe. We had
an infected tradie blow-in from Sydney on a job here and the *only*
people he infected were the two who travelled back to Sydney with him in
his ute. After that scare, there were long lines at testing centres and
you had to book in for vaccinations. Totally changed public perceptions
of the virus up here. The Qld Government was, in my opinion, way too
successful in keeping the virus out of Qld so the people *didn't get the
message* and became complacent. During that time, the anti-vaxer message
became stronger. That, more than any other factor, is why the Vax rates
in Qld are low.
