When I was 'preparing my pension' a couple of years ago, I was advised
that average for UK* is/was currently 82 for men and 85 for women -
although I do understand the figure for men has drooped since...?

Can't be that - the oldest living person in the USA (Thelma Sutcliffe)
is a mere 115, and the oldest Canadian (since I believe they also have a
team in the World Series) is only 114.

greater lifespan is in reach for some. For the rest of us who hardly
recall breakfast then tomorrow seems a good enough ambition.

the likes of you and I

According to the ONS [1], if you were 65 years old in the period
2018~2020, men can expect 18.5 years of additional life i.e. to 83.5
Although this feels like an anomoly (how can life expectancy for a 65
yo be more than a newborn), I think it's because the 65 yo has already
beaten a lot of common causes of death [2]

Anyway, my pension spreadsheet says my money will run out at 93 (at
which point I'll have to survive on the state pension). As my dad is
still hale and hearty at 83, and his mum lived to 95, I think I'm
being appropriately cautious

I can remember registration numbers of cars I never even owned,
from ~40 years ago, but can't remember the plates on my current car.
