Well, I do too, but even I'd say that the new stuff is pretty much
designed to sound like the old stuff.

Rock music is a heritage industry nowadays

Spotify's Discover Weekly is a pretty useful thing for finding new stuff. They describe it as a mixture of stuff you know, and stuff you don't. I've found loads of new stuff, though it does seem to think I lean heavily towards the 70s (with some justification) and country (wtf).

Stick this on shuffle, and get mad busy with the skip button: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/23tNnuD2GzrimQ4nx7Tfm0?si=c312696e563640a3

Or, since nobody's mentioned chart-friendly pop here since Corfield left, this: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1kQ9jZ1HuGhZrXR3I0s87I?si=6c013f3b8de348dd

A bit much, even by my standards.

I'm comfortable with that at this point.

I think the world has also changed a fair amount in the last 20 years.

Heavens, I remember receiving an email for cascading telling my team
that if they came to work wearing jeans they would be sent home and have
to make up the time, and reminding them that for men a tie was preferred.
The teams I managed looked after 'standardisation' (which meant they were
rarely in the office) and SIM/handset acceptance (which meant they never faced
a customer and rarely a supplier.) Why dress was so important is beyond me.
I think that would have been around 1998/9.

I was concerned that my online 'persona' could have compromised my
work, and I think I was right at the time. Now it's all changed and no one
would give much of a stuff.

I also use the Spotify daily mixes, though they can become a little
repetitive without the odd foray in to the back catalogue to educate its
algorithm. Amazing what quite esoteric 'roots' stuff there is on there
now. Big names like Planxty or Silly Wizard but some more recent folk
idiom acts.

The Jag is soundproofed as standard - even the gearbox housing cover
has some rubber soundproofing on it. The main problem is definitely
wind noise.

Baby Driver does have a particularly good soundtrack, including
Brighton Rock, for example.

I'm a big prog-rock fan but I also really like Rag'n'Bone Man. He's
been around for five years or so but I first saw him on Jools Holland's
show.

Which reminds me of another artist I first saw on JH's show - Chris,
formerly Christine & The Queens, although it seems that she/they have
been around since 2010.

A what now? You mean with physical buttons and stuff? Most of them
have a minimalist on/off switch and volume control, some also
additional buttons to switch between apps.

There are hundreds to choose from. many in vehicle-specific housings,
but not for the TD5 Defender, nor, I'm sure, for yours.

The problem on the defender is that akthough there's enough surface
area, once the radio cassette is removed, for a double-Din unit to
fit, the space behind it is not deep enough. So I had to hunt for one
that was only recessed by about half of most of them, which seem to be
based on previous standard sizes that were required for physical
CD/DVD drives.

In addition the plastic dash needed a reinforcing metal cover, which
thankfully, like most things LandRover, is manufactured on a small
scale and easily, and cheaply, available. Just a machined bit of ally,
black painted, with holes for all the existing buttons and switches.
Looks great, you'd never know it wasn't OEM.

I still enjoy 70s and 80s stuff such as Queen and The Who but the radio
in the van stays tuned to Classic FM for relaxing musical wallpaper when
I am driving. Rap and its myriad derivatives just annoys me enough to
reach for the off button.

I read that they had cleared all the music before filming started
(unuusually and at some expense) as the action was choreographed to the
beat (as in the Focus bit).

It was described as a musical without musical "numbers"

The Jag doesn't have a DIN aperture - it has the old twin spindle
arrangement.

I've picked up a few new ones from Jools but I think they got fewer in
the last couple of years doing the full shows, so 2018-19. Just
checking, it seems it's a while since one was added to playlists in
Spotify. That was Vintage Trouble who were on Jools in 2011. They are
very much a "heritage" rock band that Champ was referring to.

I've also picked up a couple from Youtube suggestions. This chap does
some nice covers and an increasing number of original songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpQMHKJaZT0

Like others have mentioned, I also listen to the daily mix lists curated
by Spotify based on what they think I like. They are getting a bit samey
as Pete Fisher mentioned.

I have just started a free month on Youtube Music to see if they have
better algorithms based on what videos I have watched in the past...

Autotune is being used as a ubiquitous vocal effect and is distinctly
annoying. It's not that the singers can't sing in tune (mostly, anyway),
it just became a fashion sometime post-Cher and hasn't stopped being a
fashion.

My Landrover was incredibly quite if you removed the top and drove it
jeep style. It was all wind noise (maybe some racket from the various
