Was that the name she used here? I only knew her as Judith in Umbria
on the UK food group.

I'm not sure how many groups she used that name on, but I remember she
used it while she was planning her move to Umbria, over 20 years ago.

Definitely! I'm talking the 1990's to mid-2000's. Googlegroups didn't
come about until 2001 or so and people who were posting to Usenet didn't
need Google. If someone wanted to dump a bunch of repetitive spam into
Usenet groups they really had to work at it.

As with any group, where were, of course, conflicts. Not everyone will
ever get along with everyone. Yet we were spared regular posts from a
guy who thinks everyone is fascinated by his shaved gonads and the
equally boring death wish replies. Food and cooking was considered on
topic! There were in-person "cook-ins" (Ed attended one in Connecticut
but there were a number of them held across the US). There was an RFC
chat room and occasional "cook-alongs" which coincided with chat
sessions. In the aftermath of 9/11, RFC published a cookbook, the
proceeds of which went to charity. Has it really deteriorated? You
tell me. :)

It's nice to know he's still around. :)

It will ALWAYS be wonderful as long as your majesty continues
to moderates this group.

Rainbow stew and free bubble up ... with hummingbirds farting
in our ears.

But lately, your highness, I have noticed that your royal
jester dwarf brought in a bunch of unsavory folks which you
have not yet censured.

Your majesty might consider paying more attention to the dwarf.
And maybe giving him more gold sovereigns to glue to the sidewalk.

Poor Steve is now at the same level as Kuthe...

An rfc "class dunce", lol...

And Jill acts like she belatedly discovered a hole in her diaphragm, after a strenuous night of coital activity...

I bet they can do that easily without Google Groups too.

But more importantly: 10 years ago people like Jill weren't obsessed
with John Kuthe and didn't suffer from the delusion that they were
running this joint.

times changed and people moved on to livejournal
or other social media platforms.

the usenet groups i spent time on the most back
then had regular meetings all over the country and
they were often fun and interesting and many people
became friends at a much different level than what
happened via e-mail and usenet. a lot of people
even formed couples (or more) and got married and
all that too which is normally what people will do
if they meet and like each other.

Now Greg, I'm surely not sticking up for Jill, but you
probably know less about vaginas than anyone here.
Here is an interesting article for those who have
vaginas, and those of us who love them.
