house won't smell of it. I don't understand that. A house is supposed
to be lived in. Food smells are fine, as long as we're not talking
about durian, mutton bird or extensive deep frying. We don't live in
museums or doctors' waiting rooms.

Indeed, that's what I want - an outdoor kitchen so I can cook whatever the hell I want. I use a portable butane burner anyway so I got the important component in place. All I need now is a big backyard.

Beats me what the difference is between polenta and grits. I had a plate of grits that I enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately, I had to go to the mainland to get it. Those green onions look all battered and bruised. That would have never happened in Hawaii.

we don't fry much either so we don't have grease
and food smells hanging on the walls or the rest
of the place.

today we're having bean buritos without the
shells. no real cooking there other than reheating
the beans and melting the cheese.

Mackerel hasn't made it big in America as it has in some places. Mahimahi used to be the fish of choice in Hawaii back in the old days. These days, ahi and shrimp are Kings. I think the Hawaiians are warming up to salmon. I've even purchased some fresh salmon. It was quite tasty and the family seemed to like it.

An advantage of mackerel over salmon is that mackerel is wild caught,
while most salmon are horribly farmed frankenfish.

I've never tasted fresh mackerel. All I know is canned mackerel

The mackerel I get is not really fresh - it's typically a whole filet that has been frozen. Maybe it's salted. It's delicious broiled Japanese style.

Yeah. Fresh mackerel is a fairly strong-tasting fish; I like
it in small quantities, prepared Japanese style (shioyaki).
Canned mackerel smells like canned cat food.

are a lot of good fish recipes that use tomatoes.
