The only reason I made that remark is because songbird frequently
mentions liking canned SpaghettiOs. He frequently posts about fresh
vegetables and gardening yet happily eats canned pasta. It's an odd
juxtaposition.

I'm the one who doesn't like catfish. Or any freshwater fish.

Once again, Carol is confused. And catfish may taste muddy to some but
it is certainly not a stinky fish.

Make up your mind, should they fry outside or cook inside so the house
is "lived in"?

Who the heck regularly eats durian, mutton bird (whatever the heck that
is) and lets food grease build up in the kitchen? Sloppy cooks, perhaps.

My kitchen is separate from the dining/living area but don't close the
door when I'm cooking. Food smells don't get trapped in and conversely,
the house does not *stink* when I cook fish or anything else.

I had to look it up:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muttonbird

I suspect Michael is using the term in its generic sense
('gamey' tasting ducks & geese) vs. its specific sense.
(Unfledged petrels & shearwaters in New Zealand).

Maybe in his neck of the woods it is applied to ducks.

I have French doors which I close. If the stove fan
is on, it heeps any smells out of the rest of the house.

You're right about that - can't do anything about it. This might be more to your style.

if you are cooking fish it is pretty likely i'd
consider it a stink. but oh well. we all survive
and move on.

i have however, been inside some restaurants when
they weren't open for business and i can tell you
that no amount of cleaning will get them to smell
fresh. which is why i say that most of them should
be burned down and rebuilt every five years or so
or at least remodeled...

a mystery wrapped in a conundrum...

really, it's just the fact that it is quick and easy
when nothing else is appealing and i'm tired enough to
not want to cook.

the other day i took some spaghettios and put some
chili powder and garlic salt in them. it was ok but
i would have gladly had something else but i'd had
enough peanut butter for the day.

today we're thawing out chili for tomorrow. i had
beans for brunch and included a little butter on them.
carrots are usually eaten and not mentioned, same for
apples.

the past few days i've been eating buritos with
lettuce and tomatoes on them, whole milk yogurt and
hot sauce and a bit of western dressing for the
top.

raisin bran a few times, some graham crackers and
chocolate frosting (homemade with butter).

i can eat a lot more when i'm gardening but it also
makes me tired enough that i'm not really interested
in cooking that much.

i was supposed to cut up apples this morning, but
now it is too late. i'm not sure i'll have enough
energy or remember to do it later, but there's a good
chance... we'll see how it goes.

https://aquabounty.com/our-salmon

It's called Recirculating Aquaculture Systems. They are sprinkled
about the USA and Canada. AquaBounty is one of the companies. There
are others. The link shows how the technology works. Norway and the
UK are also apparently doing it too. Austrailia as well.

Not all the 'bad' farms are converting but you have a choice. A really
big one is under construction in Ohio.

I just posted it. They have improved the process. You have them where
you are, you just have to check for what brands are doing that.

The taste profile is diminished vs. wild.

https://www.eatthis.com/farm-raised-wild-caught-salmon-difference/

"Wild-caught salmon lends a more robust salmon flavor and is often a firmer, less fatty fish. Farm-raised salmon is higher in fat, which is immediately noticeable with these visible striations of fat in the filet. It's this fat that allows it to fall apart more easily as you sink your fork into it, and offers a more mild fish flavor.'

Sockeye—Also known as red salmon, Alaska sockeye is one of the most popular salmon species due to its deep red color and rich salmon flavor.
Available: Fresh from mid-May through mid-September and frozen year-round.
