I received my IRS check and felt the wealth, so I splurged on two
steaks. That's twenty bucks for two itty-bitty steaks. Good though!

Not bad if it is really good. Tomorrow I'm having the other half of the
A5 steak I bought last week. Cost is triple for my one serving what you
paid for both.

Last time I treated my family and bought two, this time I bought one and
split it.

Petite filets! That's about the size of a steak I can eat in one
sitting and hey, why not splurge occasionally. Cooked just right
(medium-rare for me) they are delicious and nicely tender. Nicely done,
Leo. :)

Yes, A5 is the top grade. I went to Mazzaros, an Italian specialty
store, last week and while there, treated myself again. Not something
to do every week, but a couple of times a year, why not?

Good choice! But there's something strange, something green in the photos.
You should probably avoid that for your own safety. ;)

Once, my local meat shop had argentine rib eye, but it looked just like
Wagyu beef! It cost about 25 EUR for 8 oz and was amazing!

Sadly I've never found it again, so I wonder if it was an experiment and
the regular customer thought it looked weird and didn't buy it. =(

There was a time when I wanted to do "two" foodie things. I wanted to
eat lobster until I didn't want any more, and I did that. I wanted to
taste beluga caviar, and I haven't done that. All I've eaten is lumpfish
and salmon "caviar", and I like both.
That Wagyu beef should pair well with beluga caviar. I need to upgrade
my friends...or get some. ;)

Never had the "good" caviar. The cheaper stuff I had was too fishy for
me.

When I was working, we made insulated boxes for lobster fisheries. At
times, we were able to get them very cheap.

I like when fishy things taste fishy. I mean, you can hardly blame
them.

I remember seeing caviar in the seafood department of a high quality
department store in Copenhagen back in 1999. The can was about 4" in
diameter and 3" high. The price on it worked out to about $1200. I can't
tell you if it was better than the cheap stuff.

Thanks Dave. I was just wondering what caviar cost in 1999 in
Copenhagen.

much of the fishy smell actually comes from algae...
having cleaned plenty of aquariums (both fresh water
and salt water) plus also eating fish from various
types of waters i can say that if you have a really
fishy tasting fish it could be the species (some are
fishier than others), but also it can be an indication
of poor water quality. the same kind of trout from
different streams or lakes could taste quite
different.

and then too, cooked vs. non-cooked also can make a
lot of difference... sushi grade tuna and salmon are
quite nice to me, but when cooked i'm not as fond of
them. seviche i also like when made with certain
fishes...

Farmed salmon is frankenfish that's full of chicken fat, because of
the feed they get. Mackerel is always wild caught and very fishy, even
tough it comes from the ocean, not from an aquarium.

Reminds me when I went to Boston for 2 months for work. We we're about 6
colleagues who went to a lobster restaurant and ordered the biggest
monster they had.

All my colleagues except 1 gorged themselves on bread and starters, so
when the monster came, I could eat as much as I wanted until I was
completely full just on lobster.

As for beluga caviar, never tried, but Wagyu beef is very close to beef
heaven! =)

I recommend pike and perch. Not very "fishy" and very good. Catch them
yourself for better taste! =)
